The Canadian Centre for Professional Legal Education (CPLED) is a nonprofit organization that offers the Bar admission program in Alberta, British Columbia (effective September 2026), Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, and Saskatchewan. Students must article and complete CPLED''s Practice Readiness Education Program (PREP), to be called to the Bar. addition to the bar admission training program, CPLED also develops and delivers courses for internationally trained lawyers (ITLs). CPLED helps students hone their knowledge and practical skills and assesses their competence level. CPLED maintains a high standard of student programs and services to ensure a strong transition into the legal profession. The ITL Programs Manager will report to the CEO and play a key role in developing and building out CPLED''s programs and courses for ITLs and providing direct leadership to staff and contractors. This position requires practice experience and legal subject matter expertise, excellent leadership, time management, project management, communication, collaboration, organizational, and teamwork skills. As a key member of CPLED''s leadership team, the ITL Programs Manager will oversee the development and delivery of all CPLED programs and courses for ITLs and manage all employees within that team. They will also work closely and collaborate with other members of the leadership team who manage processes and technological improvements to achieve and increase efficiency, effectiveness, and the quality of program and course delivery. Key Responsibilities: Content Development Work with the CEO to develop CPLED''s ITL Programs team, which includes hiring external contractors and may include hiring staff members. Oversee the successful development and delivery of existing and new CPLED courses for ITLs, including results reporting to the Federation of Law Societies of Canada, when applicable. Contribute to the development of innovative education programs, materials, and solutions by integrating adult learning best practices and thought leadership into eLearning courses. Oversee the development and delivery of educational content that is supported by research and analysis, including interest holder engagement activities. Produce quality content on time and budget, and align and map the content to applicable competency framework(s). Monitor and evaluate content to ensure it is practical, accurate, and comprehensive. Support program accessibility and course consistency. Leadership Collaborate with the CPLED leadership team to develop strategic plans for the organization and department. Set department goals, monitor performance, and direct the ITL Programs Team. Supervise, manage, train, and mentor direct reports. Assign work, providing oversight and support to content developers and reviewers, and ensuring timelines are met. Develop job descriptions, competency requirements, and training for subject matter experts (SMEs) as required for content development, review, and delivery. Work collaboratively with the CPLED ITL Advisory Group in developing and revising course and program content. Demonstrate flexibility and leadership in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment. Promote CPLED education programs to various audiences (e.g., NCA candidates, prospective students, and others, as required). Create and maintain a supportive and collaborative learning environment within CPLED characterized by high professional and ethical standards, customer focus, a positive service attitude, and attention to CPLED''s strategies and objectives. Respond to interest holder inquiries. Support the CEO and their designate(s) with other projects and tasks as required. Management and Reporting Develop and execute work schedules for the development and delivery of all ITL programs and courses. Oversee the hiring, training, and retention of external contractors. Review and approve external contractor contracts and invoices. Monitor and report on content development progress and issues regularly and on time to the CEO. Work collaboratively with members of the CPLED Programs and Operations teams for operational needs. Participate actively in business planning, significant business decisions, and oversight of the ITL programs'' budget. Implement, maintain, and strengthen performance measurement analysis and performance management, including reporting on interest holder survey results and other relevant documents. Conduct risk assessments and support policy development. Identify and implement continuous improvement of processes. Attend meetings and events, as directed by the CEO, and work collaboratively with CPLED team members and representatives from the Federation of Law Societies of Canada and the Law Societies of CPLED''s participating jurisdictions, and other interest holders. Continuous Learning: Continually develop and improve skills and knowledge. Qualifications: Member of a Law Society or eligible to become a member. 7+ years of progressively responsible post-call experience. 5+ years of supervisory, team lead, project lead, and/or project management experience. Demonstrated interest and experience in developing education content and presentations for professionals, with preference being given to applicants with experience with internationally trained lawyers. Broad legal experience, practice management experience, and legal subject matter expertise to be able to review and evaluate education content effectively. Significant experience and a strong understanding of project management principles and methods are considered an asset. Strong team building, organizational, communication, and leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to gain consensus. Strong team player able to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. Ability to interact with the profession and internal departments to achieve business change and engage interest holders. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with diverse interest holders. Creative and strategic thinker with the ability to solve problems intuitively. Strong attention to detail allied to a demonstrated professional and quality outcome work ethic. Critical thinker, able to evaluate situations and recommend solutions. Ability to manage workload while working on multiple initiatives with multiple priorities. Travel may be required from time to time. Current Hybrid Work Our current Hybrid work model requires staff to have in-person time in the office and work remotely on other days. Attendance in the office is mandatory on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for all staff unless it is an exemption day due to live student sessions or indicated by your Manager. Mondays and Fridays remain flexible, allowing you to work remotely. However, you are also welcome to work three, four, or five days in the office.
