Job Description

Summary Thompson House has openings for the positions of a Permanent Part Time Day Personal Support Worker. These positions are responsible for performing a variety of services to aid in resident care and comfort as part of a harmonious resident care team. This position reports to the unit RN or RPN. This position is governed by the SEIU collective agreement. The successful candidate for this position must possess the following qualifications: Current Personal Support Worker Certificate Experience in Long Term Care setting is considered an asset The successful candidate for this position must have the following skills: Ability to work collaboratively as a member of the care team. Sound understanding of the responsibilities and scope of the Personal Support Worker (PSW). Sound judgement, problem solving, and decision making skills. Excellent interpersonal skills required. Ability to work in a supportive manner with Residents, Caregivers, and medical professionals in order to effectively respond to the needs of Residents. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to effectively utilize electronic resident records to document Resident interactions. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position. Which include regularly: standing, walking, reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing and pulling. The successful candidate for this position must be able to: Provide personal care to residents such as bathing, assisting with personal hygiene, toileting, and others. Assist residents with R.O.M. exercises and mobility as directed. Serve and collect food trays. Feed residents who require assistance Carry out non-prescription treatments, as directed. Prepare residents for and escort them to in-home appointments as directed. Encourage residents'' independence in activities of daily living. Comfort, reassure, and understand residents'' emotional, social and spiritual needs Wage commensurate with experience as per the SEIU collective agreement.
