Job Description

Overview At Wierd Advisory, we believe that the nature of advice and expertise is changing and that being strategic calls for more creative problem-solving. That''''s why we prioritize creating an environment where exceptional individuals with diverse perspectives, thinking, and capabilities can thrive and do their best work. We''''re a boutique consultancy that partners with senior executives at some of the world''''s most respected companies and promising start-ups, guiding them through unique challenges arising from complex internal and external dynamics. They choose to engage with us because of our demonstrated willingness to approach longstanding challenges in new ways and our commitment to exceptional quality in everything we do. We''''re currently looking to add exceptional life sciences talent at the Manager or Senior Manager level. We''''re particularly interested in two profiles: Strategists You thrive on tackling complex, high-stakes strategic challenges in pharma and biotech. Strategy is the core of what we do if you enjoy framing ambiguous problems, pressure-testing assumptions, and building real decision support for senior leaders, youll find sophisticated work here. Strategy + Insights Builders You bring strong research and insight-generation capabilities alongside strategic thinking. Were building distinctive ways of generating insights not traditional market research, but approaches that integrate research directly into strategy development. If you have pharma research experience and want to do this work differently, youll have the opportunity to help shape this capability as we continue to build it out. We are a rapidly growing startup yet deliberately boutique. Craftsmanship is one of our core values and we believe in doing things very differently from what we see in big-box consulting and research firms. The Role As a Manager or Senior Manager, you will play a prominent role in leading critical workstreams and projects for marquee clients in the life sciences and healthcare ecosystem. You demonstrate a high level of proficiency in idea generation, problem identification, fact-finding, research and synthesis, and strategic planning, including guiding the initial design phases of emerging initiatives and ensuring the thorough execution of projects. Your strategic contributions extend to translating client requirements into the appropriate scope, building frameworks, research plans, creating project outputs (not merely delegating), and collaborating closely with cross-functional client teams to maintain alignment throughout project progression. An essential aspect of this role involves engaging directly with senior executives, demonstrating an immediate understanding in conversations, swiftly translating needs into actionable solutions, and building credibility around recommendations to ensure they are well-received by stakeholders. You will actively collaborate with company leadership to contribute to the development of key solutions and recommendations, providing valuable insights to address challenges. Your ability to seek input thoughtfully shows in how you approach collaboration and reverse mentorship, where your strengths come to the forefront. Moreover, you''''ll take ownership of refining and finalizing deliverables, ensuring they meet the highest standards. For those bringing research and insights capabilities, you''''ll also be involved in designing research approaches, synthesizing complex information from multiple sources (primary research, competitive landscapes, scientific literature, stakeholder perspectives), and generating insights that shape strategic decisions. Why Join Us Competitive compensation and benefits package, with clear paths for growth Our company ethos has employee experience at the centre, fostering a culture that values your well-being and creates the conditions for you to do amazing work We are strong proponents that the future of work is already here, but unevenly distributed - you should expect to enjoy the flexibility of working from your ideal location, complemented by occasional team gatherings at a cool loft downtown for collaboration and fun If you thrive on doing exceptional work and seek a start-up ''''feel'''' versus the bureaucracy and politics of a large enterprise or top-tier firm, we are your ideal fit We consistently aim for purposeful discussion and debate, building muscles and manners that help us say goodbye to dull meetings and hello to more meaningful collaboration A small and impactful part of our business mix involves taking on projects connected to causes, engaging in important system-level conversations pro bono, and giving back Required Qualifications You are legally able to work in Canada (Citizen, permanent resident, work permit holder). You''''re intellectually curious - whether thats shown through a bachelors degree, graduate work in STEM, business, design, humanities, or other fields, or through self-directed learning. We care more about how you think and what youve built than where you studied. You bring 5-10 years of experience, typically from management consulting, strategy roles, or transformation work. But what really matters is that youve done interesting things maybe youve led strategic projects, started something of your own, or helped transform how organizations work. You get how pharma works. The science doesnt intimidate you, even if youre not a scientist. You have a genuine interest in companies driving innovation in patient care, thinking big picture while grasping the intricate details that make them a reality. Experience in the Canadian/American pharma ecosystem is valuable, but we''''re more interested in your ability to quickly dive deep into new domains. You can point to concrete examples where you''''ve made strategic initiatives happen and won the trust of senior leaders in pharmaceutical or biotech organizations. For pure strategists , facilitation skills are a strong asset you know how to read a room, guide conversations, and move groups toward outcomes. You''''ve proven this through running workshops, leading collaborative sessions. For strategy and insights builders , you need to bring research and insight-generation capabilities designing targeted primary/secondary research, analyzing competitive landscapes, synthesizing complex qualitative data, and identifying patterns across stakeholder interviews to surface what matters most. For Senior Manager candidates , we look for builders people who''''ve grown something, whether that''''s capabilities, relationships, practice areas, or new ways of delivering value. You''''re comfortable with the tools of our trade Microsoft Office suite (Teams, PowerPoint, Excel) is essential, and experience with modern collaboration tools is valuable. A valid passport and openness to occasional travel across the GTA, North America, and Europe is necessary. The Recruitment Process Our process involves a 30-45 min virtual interview, a 60-min virtual panel interview, and a final, face-to-face interview in Toronto. References will be contacted before an offer. Expect clear and timely communication throughout. How to Apply Ready to be part of something exceptional? Let''''s talk. Skip the traditional cover letter. Instead, build a one-in infographic slide to tell us a bit about who you are, what makes you ''''good-weird'''', and... For Pure Strategists : Share something non-obvious you''''ve noticed about pharma strategy or how the industry operates - an insight that would make pharmaceutical executives stop and think. For Strategy + Insights : What''''s one question pharma executives should be asking that traditional market research isnt designed to answer? Feel free to be creative with the format - we care more about substance and clarity of thinking than polish. And yes, we genuinely love a well-placed emoji.
