Your opportunity Reporting to the Director, Technology Services, the Network, Systems and Security Administrator will play a key role within the Henry N.R. Jackman Faculty of Laws Technology Services team, supporting our technology environment that underpins academic, research, and administrative activities. This position offers the opportunity to work across a broad and evolving infrastructure landscape, balancing daytoday operational excellence with longerterm planning, security, and service improvement initiatives. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of the Facultys network, systems and services. This includes infrastructure and systems projects, diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues, and proactively monitoring platforms to identify risks and improvement opportunities. A significant focus of the role is the protection of digital assets, requiring the thoughtful application of security controls, access management, and risk mitigation practices aligned with institutional standards and regulatory requirements. Working closely with technical colleagues, vendors, and a diverse group of stakeholders, the role provides opportunities to lead technical work on initiatives such as system upgrades, new service implementations, and infrastructure enhancements. The incumbent will help translate business and academic needs into effective technical solutions, while ensuring appropriate testing, documentation, and operational readiness. This position also emphasizes collaboration, service, and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will provide expert guidance to clients and peers, contribute to operational documentation and procedures, and stay current with emerging technologies and best practices. With a strong mix of handson technical work, project coordination, and consultative engagement, this role offers a meaningful opportunity to shape and strengthen Jackman Laws technology environment. Your responsibilities will include Configuring system applications according to needs Creating complex and technical documentation and user support guides Troubleshooting and resolving system, network and/or server problems Conducting preventative maintenance on computing systems Liaising with technical specialists to resolve enduser issues Planning and implementing components of ITrelated projects Executing security measures for network devices and introducing variations as required Keeping wellinformed on current technologies, best practices and industry standards Essential Qualifications Bachelor''''s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum 5 years of recent experience with server, network, and system administration, support, and troubleshooting in a heterogeneous computing environment. Demonstrated experience and solid understanding of endpoint management administration using platforms such as MS Intune, SCCM and KACE. Demonstrated experience and solid understanding of administering Active Directory, DNS and DHCP. Demonstrated experience and solid understanding of Unix/Linux (Ubuntu), Windows (11 and Server 2019/2022/2025), and Apple OS/X operating systems, server and workstations; virtualized servers (VSphere, VMware). Demonstrated experience and solid understanding of deploying, configuring, and maintaining networking infrastructure and security, including firewalls (PaloAlto), and switches. Solid Linux/UNIX shell, Windows (such as Bash and PowerShell) scripting skills. Strong knowledge of networking concepts such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, and VLANs. Strong knowledge of applying digital certificates, managing vulnerabilities, endpoint security, patch management, system monitoring, and backup/recovery practices. Strong knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint site and site collection administration. Good knowledge of current cybersecurity principles and best practices. Strong analytical and problemsolving skills and a demonstrated ability to continually learn onthejob, and on own initiative, to keep current with rapid changes in a highly dynamic department. Strong commitment to highquality service and ability to exercise good judgment, discretion, and tact while remaining calm under pressure. Ability to write technical specifications, operational, and enduser documentation. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate effectively and accurately both orally and in writing, including the ability to communicate technical concepts to persons with nontechnical backgrounds. Ability to work under highpressure conditions and with multiple competing and incompatible deadlines/priorities. Assets (Nonessential) Ability to identify areas of vulnerability in the use, storage or modification of personal information. Understanding of project management and procurement processes. Certificates in endpoint administration, network, security and/or privacy, or progress in their pursuit. ITIL foundations level (or higher) certification.
