Job Description

About the Project: The Eglinton Crosstown West Extension will bring the Eglinton Crosstown LRT another 9.2 kilometers farther west, creating a continuous rapid transit line from the east end of Toronto into Mississauga. The Stations, Rail, and Systems (SRS) package encompasses the design, construction, integration, and commissioning of key project components. Position Overview: The Brownfield Specialist will play a critical role in the Systems Team of the TRP Consortium, focusing on the seamless integration of new systems for the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension (ECWE) with the existing Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit (ECLRT) infrastructure. This position requires expertise in brownfield environments, where modifications and upgrades must be made to operational legacy systems without disrupting service. The primary objective is to ensure reliable, efficient, and safe integration across key subsystems, including signaling (SIG), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), telecommunications (telecoms), and Operations Control Center (OCC) upgrades. The role will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, contractors, and stakeholders, to mitigate risks, resolve interface issues, and deliver project milestones on time and within budget. Key Responsibilities: Support the integration efforts for ECWE systems with existing ECLRT infrastructure, with a focus on compatibility and minimal downtime during upgrades. Conduct detailed assessments of brownfield sites to identify integration challenges in signaling, SCADA, telecoms, and OCC systems. Develop and implement integration plans, including interface specifications, testing protocols, and migration strategies to ensure seamless connectivity between new ECWE components and legacy ECLRT systems. Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., signaling, SCADA, telecoms, and OCC specialists) and external vendors to resolve technical discrepancies, perform system simulations, and validate integrations through modeling and on-site testing. Monitor and manage risks associated with brownfield modifications, such as legacy hardware constraints, software compatibility, and regulatory compliance. Prepare technical documentation, including integration reports, as-built drawings, and change management logs. Support commissioning and handover phases, ensuring all integrated systems meet performance standards and safety requirements. Provide technical guidance and training to junior team members and stakeholders on brownfield integration best practices. Participate in project meetings, audits, and reviews to align integration activities with overall project timelines and objectives. Qualifications: Bachelor''s degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., P.Eng, PMP) is preferred. Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in systems integration within brownfield transit or rail projects, with proven expertise in signaling, SCADA, telecoms, and control center systems. Strong knowledge of rail transit standards (e.g., IEEE, AREMA, or equivalent) and experience with light rail systems similar to ECLRT/ECWE. Proficiency in integration tools and software, such as simulation platforms (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink), SCADA systems, and telecom protocols (e.g., IP-based networks). Familiarity with OCC upgrade processes, including hardware/software migrations and cybersecurity considerations. Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex interface issues in live operational environments. Strong communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders. Ability to work in a fast-paced, project-driven environment with occasional on-site requirements, including evenings or weekends during testing phases. Valid driver''s license and willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
