For more information, visit Position Summary: The Master of HST Alakai is a highly skilled and experienced individual responsible for the overall management, operation, and navigation of the HST (High-Speed Transport) Alakai vessel. This role requires exceptional leadership, technical expertise, and a deep understanding of maritime operations. The Master of HST Alakai will ensure the safe and efficient transportation of passengers and cargo, while maintaining compliance with applicable regulations and delivering a superior customer experience. HST Alakai operates between Bar Harbor, Maine, and Yarmouth, Novia Scotia as a High-Speed Passenger and Vehicle Ferry. Rotation: 28 Days on 28 Days off Benefits: Healthcare, Dental, Vision, 401k Duties and Responsibilities: Operate and manage vessel within legal requirements of USCG, FCC, IMO-HSC, Class Society, and other pertinent regulatory agencies. Assure that the appropriately trained crew are aboard and assigned to the Watch Quarter Station Bill as per USCG regulations and company operating procedures. Perform all required pre-boarding and disembarkation duties as outlined by company policy. Perform all vessel underway duties as outlined by company policy. Ensure the vessel has all required charts and publications for the service route. Supervise and confirm proper and safe mooring of the vessel to provide the appropriate level of safeguarding the significant capital investment. Participate in the process of interviewing, training, and evaluating of Relief Captains, Mates, Abs, and other deck department personnel. Compile, review, and maintain all vessel logs, reports, and forms as required by law and company policy. Serve as onboard Risk Manager and take corrective actions per company policy and as critical situations require. Provide for the safety and appropriate training of marine and non-marine crew. Maintain a strong interest in the vessel, its crew, and equipment and manage it accordingly. Participate in the maintenance and update of the Operations Manual in consultation with Operations Manager or Senior Project Manager. Conduct drills with Marine and Non-marine crew as mandated by company policy and regulations. Conduct Safety audits both as mandated by company policy and as circumstances require. Supervise the coordination of corrective action indicated because of safety audits. Monitor, review, and where necessary schedule Mariners to ensure that proper manning levels are maintained and that pertinent laws, regulations, and guidelines are followed. Ensure that the performance and behavior of Officers and crew meet legal and professional requirements. Consult with the Operations Manager with regard to infractions by crew members. Serve as a trainer for IMO-HSC Training Program. Assist in IMO-HSC type rating program as required. Performs other duties as assigned.
