Job Description

International Medical Assistant Endocrinology The Opportunity We''re hiring an International Medical Assistant for a busy endocrinologist practice. This role is well-suited to an International Medical Graduate or internationally trained physician who wants to use strong clinical training in a meaningful, patient-facing positionwhether or not you''re currently pursuing Canadian/U.S. licensure. Schedule: Part-time to start, with the opportunity to add additional days/hours as clinic needs evolve. You''ll work closely with the endocrinologist day-to-day and play a major role in keeping visits efficient, organized, and high quality. We''re looking for someone who is independent, self-motivated, and detail-oriented, with excellent communication and a strong ability to anticipate what the physician needs next. What You''ll Do You''ll work side-by-side with the endocrinologist to maximize visit efficiency, improve patient experience, and ensure every appointment has the right information ready at the right time. Patient intake & visit preparation Room patients and set the agenda: confirm the reason for visit and key concerns up front. Complete focused endocrine intake and documentation (e.g., diabetes regimen, hypo/hyperglycemia patterns, thyroid symptoms, steroid use, weight/appetite changes, menstrual history when relevant). Obtain and document vitals per clinic protocol (e.g., weight/BMI, blood pressure, pulse). Reconcile and clearly document medication lists for physician review (especially insulin types/doses, titration history, GLP-1s, thyroid medications, steroids). Identify gaps before the physician enters (missing labs, missing device data, unclear doses) and resolve them proactively. Diabetes technology & clinical data support (high-value workflow) Download/upload and organize glucose meter, CGM, and/or insulin pump reports. Summarize key trends for the physician (time-in-range, hypoglycemia frequency, overnight trends, post-prandial spikes) and flag urgent issues. Collect home glucose logs and ensure they''re documented clearly in the EMR. In-room physician support (''eyes and ears'') Keep the visit moving by ensuring relevant history, results, and documentation are ready for the physician. Support common endocrinology visit flows (e.g., diabetes follow-ups, medication titration visits, thyroid follow-ups) by having the right information easy to interpret. Reinforce physician instructions using clinic-approved guidance (e.g., hypoglycemia plan, sick-day rules, pre-test instructions, medication timing) and confirm patient understanding. Follow-through & closed-loop coordination (where efficiency is won) Prepare requisitions and provide patient instructions for endocrine labs/diagnostics per physician direction (e.g., A1c, lipids, thyroid labs, urine collections, cortisol testing instructions). Coordinate referrals and forms as directed (e.g., ophthalmology/retina screening, podiatry/chiropody, diabetes education programs, imaging requests). Track outstanding items and ensure completion: labs arranged, results received, follow-ups scheduled, instructions delivered. Support prescription renewal workflows by gathering required details and ensuring requests are complete for physician review. Assist with documentation needed for insurance/prior authorizations when applicable (e.g., CGMs, diabetes supplies, certain medications), following clinic processes. What success looks like The physician stays on schedule, patients feel supported, documentation is clean, and follow-ups/labs/referrals are reliably trackednothing falls through the cracks. What We''re Looking For Required Medical degree completed (international or Canadian). Eligible to work in Canada (Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or valid work permit extending beyond 12 months; no sponsorship available). Excellent English communication (verbal/written); additional languages are an asset. Strong medical knowledge and comfort with outpatient clinical workflows. Confident EMR user with strong computer skills and attention to detail. Assets Experience in endocrinology/diabetes clinics, chronic disease management, or fast-paced specialist settings. Experience with CGM/pump downloads and summarizing report patterns. Recent clinical experience within the past five (5) years. Previous residency interviews in Canada or the United States. Professional attributes (important in a solo specialist practice) Independent and proactive: you take ownership and follow through. Highly organized: strong task management with labs, results, forms, and recalls. Calm under pressure: excellent time management in a busy schedule. Patient-centered: clear, respectful, confident communication. Good judgment: knows when to escalate to the physician and when to proceed within scope. How to Apply Apply with your resume and a short note describing your clinical background and any experience relevant to endocrinology/diabetes workflows.
