If so, then this could be the role for you Reporting to the Parks and Transportation Supervisor, our Operators are an important part of the team, playing a fundamental role in the maintenance of the City''s assets and infrastructure to enhance the safety and quality of life for our citizens and overall community well-being. This position will perform a variety of tasks in the operation and maintenance of transportation infrastructure, and maintenance of equipment. Responsibilities Perform manual labour such as shoveling, lifting heavy objects, grass trimming and other duties as required. Perform a variety of duties and operate small tools and equipment related to road maintenance, traffic signal maintenance, storm sewer systems, snow and ice control, parks and open space maintenance, cemetery maintenance, and other operational functions. Undertake preventative maintenance, minor repairs, and operation of equipment. Assume on-call or standby duties on a rotational basis. Record keep through paper processes and work towards transition to digital. Work assignments will depend on the season and will vary between Parks and or Transportation. Education, Qualifications, and Work Experience High School Diploma or GED. Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver''s license. Previous experience with manual labour and using small tools and equipment. Experience operating equipment is an asset. Strong interpersonal, customer service, oral, and written communication skills. Strong attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize and adapt to changing priorities. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Be part of an on-call roster on a rotational basis (every 10-12 weeks). There are times where weekend work or night shifts may be required. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of tools, with the ability to use technology. Strong desire to learn and adapt. Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety regulations, and safe work practices. The desire to contribute to a positive safety culture by adhering to all safety standards under OH&S and by compliance with all safe work practices, policies, directives, and procedures. Able to provide a clear criminal record check. Able to provide a driver''s abstract that demonstrates safe and responsible driving behaviour. Physical Effort and Safety Commitment This position is considered a safety sensitive position which includes heavy effort including but not limited to the following: Standing, walking and sitting for long periods of time, climbing, stairs, kneeling, twisting, manual dexterity, visual acuity, climbing ladders, balancing, crawling, crouching, depth perception, lifting up to 50 pounds The employee is responsible for full cooperation with all aspects of the City''s Occupational Health and Safety program, including compliance with all rules and regulations, and for continually practicing safety while performing their duties, and monitor and enforce subordinate compliance with the OH&S program.
