Job Description

Direct Support Professional (DSP) employees work with people who experience developmental disabilities as they live in their homes and communities. This position assists people in their daily life, working with them and their connections to ensure that they can live fully in the community. Direct Support Professionals recognize people''s rights to direct their life, understanding that each person has unique gifts and needs, and they support people to learn skills for their own growth and development. Skills Required DSW or CYS Diploma Current/Valid G Driver''s License Computer Skills: Windows, Word, Excel, Email, etc. Experience Required Behaviour supports Medical supports Community Participation Supports Employment supports Supports to people interacting with the Criminal Justice System Supports to people who have a dual diagnosis Supports to people who don''t use words to communicate Supports to people who experience Autism Supports to people who experience FASD Program Coordinator experience Ability Required Current NVCI Current First Aid/CPR Able to lift 30 lbs Able to perform restraints Able to perform CPR Able to provide personal care which may include lifting, bending and/or twisting Salary Range The successful candidate for this position will be selected according to Schedule A of the SEIU Peel/Halton Bargaining Unit Collective Agreement, ($24.68-$28.88). The successful candidate for Peel SIL should bring with them a passion for working in a fast-paced, community-based environment. The successful candidate will be self-motivated and able to use creative problem-solving skills independently as they are often in the community alone with a person choosing our services. The successful candidate should have excellent written and verbal communication skills as they need to connect with community services and teach clients how to advocate for themselves. These skills are required for this position to provide consistent care coordination and empower individual choice. Prior experience in supporting clients with dual diagnosis (developmental disability and mental illness) is beneficial. The successful candidate need to be able to work with data base.
