Description The Health & Nutrition Services Manager provides critical oversight and leadership for the Head Start program. The ensure every child receives timely, quality care and nutrition that meets Head Start Performance Standards and Vermont State Licensing requirements. This includes designing the Health Services Program Plan; organizing and hosting a Health Advisory Committee to ensure parents and staff are updated on current information on health-related topics; and supervising the Food Service Providers in all the centers. The Health & Nutrition Services Manager also works with outside resources for guidance and support regarding meeting state and federal requirements. Primary Duties This is the most complete list of the essential duties for this position. It is not exhaustive and may change with time, as the needs of the program evolve. Develop, schedule and facilitate the Health Services Advisory Committee. Oversee work with Tooth Tutor/802 SMILES program. Consult with parents to determine whether child has ongoing sources of continuous, accessible health care provided by a health care professional that maintains the childs ongoing health record and is not a source of emergency or urgent care, and health insurance within 30 days of enrollment. Schedule and facilitate health screenings for children within 45 days of enrollment. Obtain determinations from health care and oral health care professionals as to whether or not the child is up to date on a schedule of age-appropriate preventive and primary medical and oral health care, based on the well-child visits and dental periodicity schedules as prescribed by the EPSDT program of the Medicaid agency of VT. Collect immunizations or exemptions for all children as recommended by CDC/State of VT. Within 90 days, begin to assist parents with making arrangement to bring the child up to date on EPSDT (includes oral health) as quickly as possible and if necessary, directly facilitate provision of health services to bring the child up to date with parent consent. Develop a tracking system that will track health services for all children and families. Monitor childrens health records before Parent Teacher Conferences and share needs with teachers. Continue to work on digital health files for all children by scanning health documents once received into the established system. Create monthly meal menus following USDA and CACFP guidelines. Attend at least 2 hours of mandatory CACFP training annually. Renew CACFP application annually. Order food and supplies as needed. Complete monthly claims to CACFP. Provide a Monthly Report to the HS Director by the 10th of each month, for the previous month. Meet monthly with the Head Start Director to share how your content area is doing. Assist Coach Mentor with determining staff to be mentored for the program year. Report to Policy Council monthly. Working Conditions This is a full-time, salaried, onsite position. is not remote. The Head Start Health/Nutrition Services Manager is based at the Head Start Management Offices at Dunham Avenue in Windsor VT and will travel to different sites in the service area. Work for this position is primarily in an office environment as well as at Head Start program sites and other locations (as needed) in the community. The ability to physically navigate these various environments is required. The work involves sitting for extended periods of time, using a computer and other office equipment. It may require occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds, occasional bending, stooping, or reaching for items. Health services must be supported by staff or consultants with training and experience in public health, nursing, health education, maternal and child health, or health administration. Ability to communicate effectively with others, including giving and receiving feedback on the quality of services. Experience supervising others. Experience working as part of a team. Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and staff at all times. Experience providing staff training and development, including on-site consultation, coaching, and mentoring to other staff.
