Job Information Job Title: Provincial Duty Officer Job Requisition ID: 78774 Ministry: Public Safety and Emergency Services Location: Edmonton Full or Part-Time: Full Time Hours of Work: 40 hours per week Permanent/Temporary: Temporary until October 31, 2026 Scope: Open Closing Date: January 23, 2026 Classification: Program Services 2 Salary: $2,345.14 to $3,076.28 bi-weekly ($61,208 $80,291 per year) AEMA Overview The Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA), under the authority of the Emergency Management Act, leads the coordination and cooperation of all organizations involved in emergencies and disasters. This includes emergency and disaster prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery. The AEMA is accountable and responsible to the Government of Alberta, to Albertans, to their communities, and to industry for the protection of people, their property, and the environment from the effects of emergency events. Alberta relies on a decentralized system for managing the various types of emergency events that occur every year. The AEMA accomplishes its objectives by leading the coordination, collaboration and cooperation between all entities involved in prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery activities within this diverse system. Provincial Duty Officer (PDO) Role The Watch Station/Provincial Duty Officer provides the 24 hours a day, 7 days a week operational capability for the Provincial Emergency Coordination Centre (PECC). The PDO monitors, analyzes and provides recommendations regarding hazards or emergencies that have impacts or potential impacts on Alberta community functions, Alberta and/or Albertans. The PDO provides situational awareness for executive decision-makers and elected officials. The Watch Station/PDO is the first point of contact for emergencies or disasters that are impacting the Government of Alberta (GoA), municipalities, First Nations, Mtis Settlements or federal partners and that require a GoA response. Responsibilities Respond to inquiries related to requests for information, advice on emergency techniques, and requests for assistance Build and maintain situational awareness of potential and ongoing public safety emergencies or disasters that impact Alberta and/or Albertans Disseminate information on potential or ongoing emergency or disaster events that may require a GoA response Support the PECC staff during a PECC elevation of Level2 or higher and other Provincial Operations Units and lines of work Ensure readiness of the PECC and Watch Station, including business continuity actions to maintain these critical services Research, write and edit material for publication and distribution to increase awareness and inform decision making Contribute to the maintenance and readiness of the PECC, alternate PECC, and MESA Competencies Creative ProblemSolving : Considering your options in a new way by challenging the typical process and considering others'' perspectives to find an alternative solution. Qualifications Required : University degree in a related field, no experience required; or equivalent as described. Equivalency : Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of 1 year of education for 1 year of experience, or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education. For example: related 1year certificate PLUS a minimum 3 years of experience; related 2year diploma PLUS a minimum 2 years of experience; related minimum 4 years of experience. The successful candidate MUST also have: Thorough knowledge and understanding of the four pillars of emergency management Thorough knowledge of the Incident Command System (ICS) Intermediate to Advanced MS Office skills and social media platform proficiency Superior written and verbal communication skills A driver''s license and clear abstract required Air Brake program completion and willingness to obtain if required Assets: Understanding of GoA and AEMA emergency planning Familiarity with applicable legislation, regulations, and guidelines Term of Employment Temporary until October31, 2026 This is a 24/7 operation with shifts up to 12 hours.
