Education facilitators deliver standardized Alzheimer Society of B.C. education workshops to people affected by dementia, the general public and other audiences. *Please note you must be 19 years or older to volunteer for this role. Role responsibilities Prepare for and present/co-present selected standardized Alzheimer Society of B.C. education workshops. Establish a safe and welcoming environment for discussion and support. Comfortably support group discussions and answer questions. Be familiar with information resources, programs and services offered by the Alzheimer Society of B.C. and stay updated on information on dementia, caregiving issues and current research as well as available community resources available to people affected by dementia (as provided by your staff supervisor). Set up room and coordinate logistics. Gather statistics on attendance and debrief with staff supervisor about participant feedback. Commitment: Long term Training The Alzheimer Society of B.C. provides an excellent and comprehensive training program for Education Facilitators. This includes an orientation to the Alzheimer Society of B.C.; basic education about dementia and its causes; information about caregiving issues faced by families; training in presenting educational materials, facilitating discussions and responding to questions; as well as on-going mentorship opportunities. We typically ask volunteers to start as Education Assistants who will help our staff give workshops. As they become more familiar with our programs and services, they will move towards role-specific training to learn and give 1-3 workshops which cover fundamental information about Alzheimer''s disease and other dementias. Commitment Minimum one year commitment; 1-4 education sessions per month. Educations are currently provided in English, but speaking languages other than English can be helpful.
