Paterson & Cooke Canada Inc. is seeking a Laboratory Technologist to support the daily operations of our Sudbury-based laboratory. The successful candidate will be a handson, detailoriented individual who enjoys working in a technical, teamfocused environment. This role is ideal for a motivated technologist with strong practical skills, a commitment to safety and quality, and an interest in contributing to the growth of Paterson & Cookes laboratory services in Canada. This position is a fulltime role located in Sudbury, Ontario . Given the nature of the work, remote work is not available. Occasional site visits to domestic or international mine sites may be required as part of certain projects. The Laboratory Technologist will carry out laboratory test programs, operate and maintain equipment, and ensure that testing and data collection are performed accurately, safely, and in accordance with established procedures. This role works closely with the Laboratory Manager, Senior Technologists, and Engineers to deliver highquality test data that supports Paterson & Cookes reputation as a leader in the mining industry. Tasks: Conduct daytoday laboratory testing activities, which primarily involve testing of mine tailings, sand, rock, and/or aggregate. Testing includes but is not limited to: material characterization, dewatering, rheology, unconfined compressive strength, etc. Record, organize, and report laboratory data in a clear and traceable format. Maintain laboratory equipment, perform routine calibration, and report maintenance needs. Assist in troubleshooting and improving test setups and procedures. Perform handson physical work, including material handling, equipment setup, and cleanup. Follow all safety procedures, wear appropriate personal protective equipment, and actively contribute to a safe work environment. Review your own work and that of peers to ensure data quality, completeness, and accuracy. Participate in quality assurance processes and ensure test results meet internal standards. Support engineers and project teams with laboratory test data and observations. Identify inefficiencies and suggest improvements to laboratory operations. Collaborate with colleagues to develop new testing methods, improve efficiency, and expand laboratory capabilities. Uphold a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and mutual respect within the lab environment. Responsibilities: Work safely, efficiently, and with attention to detail. Minimum Requirements and Competencies: Diploma in Engineering or Applied Science/Technology (Chemical, Metallurgical, Mechanical, Civil, Materials, or related field preferred). Minimum 2+ years of relevant experience in a laboratory or industrial setting. Strong handson skills with experience using tools and equipment. Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and quality. Practical aptitude with ability to diagnose, repair, and maintain laboratory equipment. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams). Commitment to workplace safety and continuous improvement. Eligible to work in Canada. Valid passport or eligible to obtain one. Forklift operator certification is considered an asset.
