Reporting to the Supervisor Bylaw, the Community Peace Officer plays a key role in promoting compliance with municipal bylaws, provincial acts, and legislation through education and enforcement. This position is responsible for responding to citizen inquiries, conducting patrols, and investigating complaints to ensure adherence to applicable regulations. Duties include administering enforcement actions, issuing penalties to individuals or businesses when required, and preparing documentation for court proceedings. This position requires flexibility to work parttime, sporadic hours, averaging approximately 10 hours per week. A primary focus of this role is fostering public awareness and understanding of bylaws and statutes to encourage voluntary compliance and community safety. Your key responsibilities Enforce municipal bylaws and provincial legislation Conduct safe and efficient road patrols. Receive and investigate public complaints and take action to achieve compliance. Compile evidence and documentation for presentation to court in an accurate, professional and unbiased manner. Serve documentation on persons who are charged with offences and witnesses of court. What you bring Strong animal apprehension handling skills. Knowledge of Medicine Hat bylaws, Alberta Traffic Safety Act, and Regulations and Provincial Statutes. Knowledge of the court system, including documentation, presentation, and testimony. As well as exhibiting high degree of professionalism. Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as planning and organizational skills. Qualifications Successful completion of a two (2) year diploma in Public Security or Police Program or equivalent from a recognized postsecondary institution. Must satisfactorily complete MHPS Enhanced Reliability Security Clearance. Currently Community Peace Officer I appointment, or the ability to obtain such an appointment from the Solicitor General and Public Security Ministry, Public Security Division. Possess and maintain an Alberta Class 5 operator''s license with acceptable driving record, first aid, WHMIS, and CPR certificates. Recent PARE physical standards test with acceptable time limit. This position has been identified as Safety Sensitive and requires the completion of a satisfactory preemployment drug screen, which includes testing for cannabis use. Why join us?
