The Day Program Assistant is an active supportive role providing direct care and assistance to persons with developmental disabilities. The Day Program assistant assists individuals to gain new life and relational opportunities and skills. They may also assist in the maintenance of safe, clean, comfortable environments; the maintenance of appropriate documentation and records; the implementation of individualized goals and/or Behavior Support Plans; and the maintenance of appropriate communication with individuals, L''Arche homes, families, guardians, professionals, other team members and Community representatives. Some of the Duties and Responsibilities Facilitate a welcoming atmosphere within the Day Program and the L''Arche community. Commitment to the Vision and Mission of L''Arche as outlined in the International Charter of L''Arche, the Identity/Mission Statement of L''Arche in North America, The Key Elements of a L''Arche Community, and the mission and mandate of the local L''Arche community. Full support of the goals of L''Arche and of the activities facilitating the achievement of these goals is expected. Develop healthy, respectful, and appropriate relationships of mutuality with persons with disabilities and all other members of the Community. Uphold the traditions of the Day Program and of the Community. This includes maintaining an environment that is familiar, comfortable, and culturally appropriate to persons with disabilities Demonstrate respect for the spiritual life of the Day Program, Community, and each individual. Some of the Responsibilities Build and foster a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere based on the individual characteristics and meaningful participation of all Day Program members. Provide respectful and high-quality direct care supports for core members in areas including: personal care needs, life goals, money management, medical care and medication, family connections, chores, food preparation, and creative endeavors. Help to plan, and participate in inclusive celebrations. Support, respect, and participate in traditions and the spiritual life of the Day Program and community. Keep accurate and up-to-date records in all areas as directed: financial, medical, daily journals etc. Assist in ensuring maintenance and upkeep of physical space, vehicles, and all equipment and supplies. Actively participate in regular meetings. Participate in reviews and personal goal-setting according to established processes. Collaborate with other assistants to carry out duties including, but not limited to: shopping, organizing, creating artwork, leading and planning activities, cooking, laundry, transportation, email communication, etc. Adhere to all L''Arche Saskatoon policies, guidelines, safety and emergency procedures, and relevant government regulations. This includes participating in, and potentially facilitating, fire drills and Occupational Health and Safety Committee meetings as needed. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Fluent in spoken and written English and able to effectively articulate thoughts and ideas in a team setting Clear police check including vulnerable sector screening Valid CPR & First Aid certification (training will be provided if needed) At least 18 years of age Valid class 5 SK driver''s license Physically able to transfer and reposition individuals with developmental disabilities. Ability to be flexible and manage the stress of multiple responsibilities Ability to remain calm, focused and clear in times of crisis Ability to take direction and follow-through on commitments in a timely fashion Open to learn and grow; able to give and receive feedback Ability to directly address tensions in relationships Specifics of role: The assistant will spend most of their time in the role in one of the homes or in the community supporting members. The assistant will attend bi-weekly formation/training meetings with the Assistants Coordinator. The assistant will provide personal care to individuals of all genders.
