Description The Department of Clinical Neurosciences in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Laboratory Technician. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension. This position reports to the Research Manager. The Laboratory Technician will play a central technical role in supporting the CaPRI research program focused on Parkinson''s disease. The primary responsibility of this position is the execution, optimization, and management of flow cytometry based experimental workflows and associated data analysis. The incumbent will oversee flow cytometry operations within the laboratory, including experimental design support, instrument operation, data quality control, and analysis. In addition, the Laboratory Technician will contribute to broader laboratory activities, including molecular and cellular biology experiments, protocol development, and training of laboratory members. The position works closely with the Principal Investigator to support experimental planning, SOP development, and the adoption of new technologies as the research program evolves. Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to): Lead the execution and optimization of flow cytometry experiments, ensuring high-quality, reproducible data Perform flow cytometry data analysis, generate publication-ready figures, and contribute to interpretation of results Maintain flow cytometry instruments and associated reagents and coordinate routine maintenance and troubleshooting Collaborate with the Principal Investigator and research team on experimental design and data interpretation Support broader laboratory research activities, including molecular and cellular assays, as needed Contribute to the development and maintenance of SOPs and technical documentation Provide technical guidance and training to students and junior staff in flow cytometry methods Ensure safe, compliant, and efficient laboratory operations Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment Communicate progress and results clearly to the Principal Investigator and team, and manage time effectively across multiple priorities Qualifications / Requirements: Bachelor''s, Master''s degree, or PhD in Molecular Biology, Neuroscience, or a related field Demonstrated hands-on experience with flow cytometry, including multicolour panel design, sample preparation, instrument setup, acquisition, and quality control required Proven experience in flow cytometry data analysis using relevant software (e.g., FlowJo or equivalent), including gating strategies, compensation, and data presentation required Minimum of two years of relevant laboratory experience in an academic or research environment required Experience with primary cell isolation and culture, particularly from mouse tissue an asset Experience working with mouse models and familiarity with animal use protocols an asset Experience with molecular and cellular biology techniques such as Western blotting, qPCR, immunocytochemistry, or immunohistochemistry an asset Experience with live-cell imaging or related cellular assays an asset Experience supporting laboratory operations or training junior staff an asset Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, particularly in the handling and interpretation of complex flow cytometry datasets required Ability to generate clear, reproducible analyses and maintain accurate experimental records Proficiency with data analysis tools (GraphPad Prism) and Microsoft Office Ability to troubleshoot and optimize experimental workflows beyond flow cytometry Experience developing or maintaining standard operating procedures Ability to operate and maintain complex laboratory equipment Application Deadline: February 10, 2026 We would like to thank all applicants in advance for submitting their resumes.
