Winnipeg Humane Society Job Posting # Date: January 28, 2026 Position Title: Clinic Assistant Surgery 1 Casual Positions available: 2 Department: Clinic Reports to: Manager, Clinic Operations Classification: Union Rate: $17.14/hr (Starting) - $22.29/hr (Year 10) Hours: Hours vary depending on availability/need (May get called on short notice) Times & days of shifts could vary/change Start Date: ASAP Closing Date for Applicants: Open until filled Position Summary: Responsible for the daily cleaning and maintenance of the clinic and equipment and assistance to the veterinary staff of The Winnipeg Humane Society. Duties include admitting and discharge of surgery animals, restraint, autoclaving of surgical packs, general cleaning of the clinic and communication with the public. Duties and Responsibilities: Data entry on appropriate animal files, including in-house and surgery animals. Admission of surgery animals. Discharge of surgery animals including client instruction. Restraint of surgery patients. Prepare animals for surgery (surgical scrub). Return of animals to the appropriate cages after surgery. Post-surgical monitoring and advising veterinary staff of any concerns. Basic animal husbandry to animals in clinic. Cleaning and preparation of surgical packs, including autoclaving. Laundry of articles related to the clinic environment. Provide assistance to the Veterinarians and Registered Veterinary Technologists with examinations and treatments of animals. Attend training sessions as required. Daily cleaning of the clinic area. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Responsible individual committed to the goals and objectives of the Society and prepared to carry out duties in and thorough, efficient manner. Must have excellent communication and observation skills. Positive, pleasant attitude and good public relation skills are absolutely necessary. Must work effectively with the staff of the shelter as a whole. Experience and skills in restraining animals safely and effectively. Internal applicants must be in good standing in current position. Accountability: Reports to the Manager, Clinic Medical and works day to day with the Veterinarians and Registered Veterinary Technologist on duty.
