Your role CBC Ottawa is looking for an experienced and dynamic producer to join our assignment team. Reporting to the senior producer of news, the successful candidate will be an editorial leader and an experienced mentor, demonstrating sound editorial judgment and thriving as part of a team in the fastpaced, highpressure world of a multiplatform newsroom. From 12:45PM to 9:00PM, Monday to Friday, you will marshal newsgathering editorial resources in the afternoon and evening, deciding which stories to cover, when, and by whom. You will coordinate and collaborate with journalists on all platforms digital, radio, social and visual ensuring we set the news agenda for Ottawa and the surrounding area. Your responsibilities Organize news coverage across all platforms during afternoons and evenings, making decisions about story priorities and rollouts, allocating resources as appropriate, and ensuring plans are in place for the next morning. Oversee all aspects of story development including assigning, researching, gathering, writing, editing and vetting across platforms, with specific responsibilities for radio news. Provide fulsome handover notes and outlooks. Work directly with the resources team. Respond quickly to breaking news and developing stories. Provide editorial oversight to ensure our content is original, relevant and impactful, and meets our journalistic standards. Ensure assignments and content choices resonate with residents of Ottawa and our coverage area and align with CBCs strategic objectives to connect with and grow audiences. Work closely with other producers on the assignment desk (mornings, weekends) to ensure continuity and collaborate with various producers across platforms and locations. Provide feedback and coaching to journalists to help them develop their skills and produce content of the highest quality. Assist with planning coverage for special projects and events. Your profile Demonstrated experience working in a fastpaced daily multiplatform news environment. Strong journalistic and criticalthinking skills, including knowledge of and familiarity with CBCs Journalistic Standards and Practices as well as the legal and ethical issues related to journalism. Ability to manage and organize large volumes of fastmoving information and quickly redirect resources to meet priorities and objectives. Knowledge of and experience in assigning and creating content for all platforms (digital, social, radio, television, streaming) as well as vetting, editing, factchecking and packaging. Superior communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. A highenergy leader with a positive, teamfirst attitude and the demonstrated ability to motivate and coach teams, and encourage creativity. A strong proven connection to the communities we serve in Ottawa, eastern Ontario and western Quebec, and a deep and nuanced understanding and appreciation of diverse perspectives and lived experiences. Possession of a valid drivers licence as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/RadioCanadas insurance company.
