Job Title : Legislative Advisor Edmonton Location : Edmonton Hours : 36.25 hours per week Type : Full Time Permanent Classification : Program Services 4 Salary : $3,056.50 - $4,006.62 Biweekly ($79,774 - $104,572 yearly) Closing Date : January 30, 2026 Role Responsibilities We are seeking a Legislative Advisor to join our team. In this role, you will monitor, review, and develop legislation that affects municipalities across Alberta. Youll work closely with internal teams, senior leadership, the Legislative Counsel Office and a range of external stakeholders to ensure the legislative framework remains current, clear, and responsive to emerging issues. Monitor, review, and develop legislation affecting municipalities; prepare drafting instructions; work closely with Legislative Counsel Office; complete legislation charts for Legislative Review Committee; support legislation through approvals and the legislature. Prepare Ministerial Orders as well as decision documents and other materials with extensive analysis, options development and recommendations. Provide communication and stakeholder support through briefings, correspondence, presentations, and participation on committees and cross-government project teams. Conduct policy analysis by researching issues, identifying risks or non-legislative solutions, and preparing reports and options that align with Ministry priorities. Monitor municipal trends and emerging issues to advise leadership on potential legislative or regulatory impacts. Qualifications Requirements : University graduation in a related field such as Law, Political Science, Public Policy, Social Science, Business, Economics, or Management. 4 years of related experience in program and policy research, analysis, legislative planning and implementation. Equivalencies : Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education Assets : Extensive knowledge of and experience with the legislative process and policy development steps. Knowledge of provincial and municipal issues, trends and priorities. Knowledge of, or the ability to quickly become familiar with, municipal governance, operations and legislation. Demonstrated ability to effectively lead, facilitate and coordinate working groups. Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and communication skills, including the ability to resolve complex problems, formulate strategies and identify impacts.
