The Opportunity: Postmedia is seeking a journalist who will help drive superior coverage ofimportant localand regionalissuesto fill a full-time vacancyinFort McMurray.Excellent newsand businessreporting and writing skills arerequired, as well as the ability tothrive working independently as part of a regional news environment. The successful candidate will be expected to break news and produce innovative reporting as part of the news team. Applicants are expected to have excellent news judgment and demonstrable strengths inaccurate, clean reporting, and a proven ability toinitiatestories and enterprise features. Beyond reporting capabilities, candidates should understand the goals and opportunities offered by digital platforms to break news and reach audiences. The successful candidate must be comfortable with filing stories for multiple platforms on tight deadlines and be keen to learn and experiment to find new ways to tell stories and engagenews and businessreaders. What youll do: Work independently as part of a collaborative regional newsroom to find,developand tell stories that people in Fort McMurray and Alberta care about and that affect their daily lives. Write short and longform stories that help readers live and thrivein the Wood Buffaloregion, anddeliver understanding of the region for readers in the West. Contribute to digital strategies that amplify your work and bring readers closer to the action. Think: newsletters, reader experiences, Q&As,emergingsocialmediaand more. Cultivating sources andestablishingexpertiseinimportant oil,gasand constructionindustries inorder tobreak stories. Who you are: Experience at a daily news organization in a deadline-oriented reporting/writing role. Fluency in digital platforms, multimediajournalism,and social media. Ability to work quickly and independently, meet multiple deadlines, and make efficient decisions. Ability to workindependentlyas part of a newsgatheringteam.
