As a key member of the Canadian Leadership Team, the Safety & Wellbeing Manager will be critical to the strategic and operational development of the IT function during the start-up and ramp-up of Hilton Foods Canada. This role is critical in building a high-performing, engaged, safe and inclusive workforce that supports the companys growth and operational excellence. This role is at the heart of driving our business capability and building a fantastic environment for all our colleagues. This is a role in which you can influence, bring new ideas and develop the Hilton Foods Canada operation in our organisation. You will bring a passion for continually improving operational performance and people capability on our brand-new site in Canada. Purpose of the role: The Safety & Wellbeing Manager is responsible for partnering with managers and our people to create and maintain a safe working environment that supports positive employee wellbeing. The role protects the Hilton Food brand and reputation by ensuring our sites are safe and meet local legal and audit requirements. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES To develop, implement, monitor and review health, safety & Wellbeing strategies, policies, procedures, risk assessments and safe working practices in line with company Safety Framework Coach and develop management at all levels in their awareness, capability and engagement to build a strong safety and wellbeing environment and culture. To develop and coach health and safety team to ensure adequate and suitable succession plan is in place To ensure the provision of clear, consistent, relevant and timely health, safety and wellbeing advice, guidance and operational support on all health, safety and wellbeing matters To promote a positive health, safety and wellbeing culture and improve health, safety performance. To respond to any safety concerns raised by employees, managers, safety representatives, visitors, contractors or members of the public To liaise with the health and safety authority and any other 3rd Party on all matters pertaining to health and safety To manage and further develop the safety management system To assist in the identification of training needs for employees, develop and deliver training as required To support managers in the carrying out of risk assessments where required To ensure a workable communication framework is in place to facilitate the flow of health, safety and wellbeing information throughout the company To undertake audits and to carry out workplace inspections to proactively identify where health, safety and wellbeing practices may be improved To investigate, or where appropriate, support managers in the investigation into circumstances or causes of accidents and take necessary steps to prevent reoccurrence To analyse accident, incident and hazard reporting statistics and recommend intervention strategies Prepare health and safety reports and statistical performance data as required Take account of and ensure that all policies and procedures are compatible with current health and safety legislation To develop and maintain effective working relationships with all departments at all levels Take an active role in any company projects or initiatives which will improve health, safety and wellbeing Active engagement with the factory floor to achieve relevant legislative or company safety standards Commitment to resolving health, safety and wellbeing issues through communication and practical means Carrying out workplace inspections and implementing any actions or improvements Chairing Safety meetings at all levels of the business Actively participating in Hilton Foods and local site H&S initiatives and meetings KEY EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS Some previous exposure to working within a global multi sited business Previous experience / exposure in FMCG within the food industry desirable Working knowledge and understanding of incident investigation (best practice) Experience of managing and overseeing an Occupational Health provision covering Health Surveillance, Management Referrals, and pro-active interaction at factory floor level. Experience with insurance and claims management (employee Comp).
