Located on 50 acres in Northeast Edmonton, we specialize in growing high-quality trees, shrubs, and perennials perfectly suited to our local climate. Role Description Full-time and part-time positions are available. Preference will be given to applicants who have a working knowledge through education and/or experience in horticulture with an emphasis on landscape ornamentals. Previous sales and customer relations experience is a definite asset. These characteristics are not required but would be very helpful. This position qualifies for NAITs LAT student co-op program. Responsibilities Customer Service and Sales: Providing information and recommendations on plant varieties and species; providing planting and care advice based on best practices and educational materials as well as educating customers about warranty where applicable; processing and invoicing of purchases (POS system); communication and general public relations. Loading of customer vehicles. Garden Center Maintenance, Restocking and Merchandising: Weeding, pruning, watering of plants; restocking and organizing trees/shrubs/perennials in sales lot; maintaining a presentable and tidy sales lot and store area; signage, tagging, and pricing. Other Related Activities as Required. Qualifications A positive work ethic and attitude and a willingness to learn are essential. Good working knowledge of ornamental horticulture applicable to Alberta; including plant identification, biology and landscape design. This is an asset but not required. Effective communication skills and attention to detail. The ability to take responsibility and work with a minimum of supervision. Able to lift 50lbs unassisted (repeatedly) and >50lbs with assistance. Able to work outdoors in inclement conditions including but not limited to; high heat, sun exposure, rain, snow and cold temperatures. Mindful of personal appearance and attire. Those who are presently enrolled in or have completed the Landscape Horticulturist Apprenticeship Program, LAT program or other post-secondary horticultural programs are encouraged to apply.
