Job Information Job Title: Police Development Training Coordinator Job Requisition ID: 74668 Ministry: Public Safety and Emergency Services Location: Edmonton Full or Part-Time: Full Time Hours of Work: 36.25 hours per week Permanent/Temporary: Temporary - 2 years Scope: Open Competition Closing Date: February 3, 2026 Classification: Program Services 4 Salary: $3,056.50 to $4,006.62 biweekly ($79,774 - $104,572/year) The Ministry of Public Safety and Emergency Services oversees law enforcement, correctional services, policing, and public safety. It supports crime prevention, restorative justice programs, and services for victims of crime, including domestic violence and human trafficking. The Ministry also coordinates largescale emergency and disaster prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery initiatives. Role Responsibilities The Training Academy (TA) promotes excellence in training and instructor development by establishing standards and, in partnership with stakeholders, facilitating the delivery of induction programs and other courses for peace officers in Alberta. As the Training Coordinator for Police Development Training (PDT), you will guide the delivery of specialized training to support the Alberta Sheriffs Police Service (APSP). The role works with the PSES Training Academy (TA) Management and other stakeholders to ensure training programs meet the standards of the Alberta Association of Chiefs of Police (AACP) and the Ministry. As a team lead coordinating and supervising contracted instructors, the Coordinator requires policing experience and an understanding of operational training requirements. A focus on professionalism and safety for PSES personnel in any training capacity is paramount. The Coordinator ensures all course curricula reflect best practices and defined standards for police recruit training, and that delivery meets TA standards. Content revisions are undertaken as needed to align with evolving operational requirements. Working under applicable legislation, policies, and proceduresincluding the Criminal Code, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and provincial and federal statutesthe Coordinator ensures alignment with the Police Act. Qualifications University graduation in a related field plus at least 4 years of progressively related experience. Cover letter required. Equivalencies considered on the basis of: One year of directly related experience for one year of directly related education, or One year of directly related education for one year of directly related experience. Related experience must include recent (within 5 years) police officer experience; experience in a police training capacity preferred. Related education may include, but is not limited to, university graduation or equivalency in fields such as Criminal Justice/Criminology, Policing/Law Enforcement, Social Sciences, Business, etc. Assets & Preferences Instructor qualifications in related police recruit training topics. Experience in supervisory roles. Experience coordinating training standards, delivery, audits, instructor resources, processes, etc. Formal training, education, or experience instructing policerelated topics using adult learning principles.
