Job Description

About Ground News Ground News is a platform that makes it easy to compare news sources, read between the lines of media bias, and break free from algorithms. Ground News offers a better way to stay informed and see every side of the story through our mobile app, web app, and browser extension. Our values do not align with any specific political ideology, and we are supported by readers who pay for a subscription to build a more nuanced understanding of the news, the world, and themselves. The Opportunity: Product Analytics Lead This role joins Ground News at a pivotal stage of growth. As product and subscriber base expand, the complexity and impact of decisions grow. Product Analytics is a core lever in prioritizing what we build, measuring success, and aligning growth with our mission to reduce polarization and help people see every side of the story. The Product Analytics team builds the data foundation for product decision-making, experimentation, reporting, and machine-learning initiatives. As a Product Analytics Lead, you will shape this foundation by defining metrics, data models, and analytical standards that scale with the company. This is a hands-on, high-ownership role. You will transform raw product data into a trusted analytics layer that informs roadmap decisions, validates product bets, and helps us understand how features change how people consume and engage with news. You will partner with Product, Engineering, and other leaders to design data models, audit logging schemas, and experimentation frameworks. The systems and metrics you build will become the backbone of how Ground News measures impact and success while remaining true to our mission. What Youll Do Conduct exploratory, open-ended analyses to answer high-impact questions central to Ground News product strategy. Analyze and model the impact of product decisions in ways that are easy to interpret, share, and act on, prioritizing clarity over unnecessary complexity. Define, develop, and evolve standardized product and business metrics to understand user behavior, engagement, and subscription performance. Develop scalable data models that efficiently answer product questions and user behaviour. Create intuitive dashboards and visualizations that surface meaningful product insights. Lead the design, launch, and analysis of experiments (multivariate feature tests) across the product ecosystem. Monitor topline product and business trends to inform roadmap planning and prioritization. Champion a documentation-first data culture to ensure shared understanding and long-term scalability. What Youll Have Bachelors degree in a quantitative field or equivalent practical experience. 5+ years of experience in product analytics, data science, analytics, management consulting, or related fields. Strong experience with data models and DAGs, and modern BI tools (Looker, Metabase, Superset, etc.). Advanced SQL skills and experience with cloud-based data warehouses (BigQuery, Redshift, Snowflake, Databricks). Proven ability to translate ambiguous business problems into analyses and articulate complex analyses into clear, actionable insights for product and business stakeholders. High standards for data quality, metric integrity, and analytical rigor. Fluency with intermediate statistical analysis to inform decisions with directional accuracy. Strong communication, documentation, and data visualization skills. Bonus Points Passion for news, media literacy, or experience with content-driven products. Experience with digital subscriptions, mobile apps, or in-app purchase businesses. Familiarity with AWS environment and orchestration tools such as Dagster. Exposure to experimentation frameworks or applied machine-learning techniques. Why Work at Ground Co-founded by a former NASA engineer and Bain consultant, Ground News offers an unparalleled learning experience both personally and professionally.
