What you will do Participate in and spearhead the ongoing enhancement of Millers chemical waste treatment management by developing and implementing process and analytical techniques that conform to standards for characterization and sampling.Serve as lab administrator overseeing waste analysis reports both internally and externally.The Chemist is responsible for evaluating and testing hazardous waste materials to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and safety standards prior to acceptance.This role involves performing chemical analyses, assessing potential risks, and making recommendations for safe handling and disposal. Our laboratory is located at our processing facility in the RM of Montcalm, MB. Managing and organizing the laboratory budget involves tracking expenditures, procuring required supplies, and seeking support. Providing technical support and assistance regarding their projects or experiments with a focus on objectivity and logical flow of information. Maintaining records of methods and results, conclusions, and implications for future research. Overseeing training and mentoring of other staff members. Managing inventory of chemicals and supplies used in experiments, for sampling and bottles and special items to send samples to third party lab and providing a list of needed items to researchers. Ensuring that safety protocols, including adhering to safety equipment, using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and spill procedure. Develop health and safety protocols for laboratory operation. Ensuring laboratory and equipment maintenance, including all equipment, supplies, and facilities. Support the development of proper sample receiving protocols including labelling, logging, and determining appropriate analytical techniques. Assist with sample tracking, documentation, and evaluation of suitability of processing criteria. Performance analytical methods and evaluate samples for physical and chemical properties to verify waste receiving classification. Preparation of sample for transport and third-party testing Communication with third party labs for proper evaluation techniques and consideration. Organize and store all chemical substances, fluids, and compressed gases according to safety instructions. Create systems for consistent evaluation of samples to determine the associated chemical hazards. Perform instrumentation calibrations and adjustments to specification set through procedures and calibration requirements. Development of specific test procedures that allot for evaluation and verification of existing processing techniques. Initiate and maintain safe laboratory procedures for storage and sample retention. Evaluate new laboratory techniques and technology for assisting with continual development. Cleaning sterilizing and maintaining laboratory and laboratory equipment Keeping up to date with relevant scientific trends, innovations, and technology developments in the industry Participate in the R&D program to improve and re-design processing techniques that will improve the health and safety, environmental sustainability, and efficiencies of the processes. Performance analytic methods for controlling process and conditions at the facility. Maintain up to date knowledge of current legislation encompassing TDG, CEPA, CCME, City of Winnipeg Sewer By-Lays as they apply to hazardous and industrial waste management.
