Summer Emergency Management Assistant Location: Street NW Edmonton, Alberta Closing Date: April 3, 2026, or Until Suitable Candidate Found Position Status: One (1) Full Time (40 hrs per week), Temporary (May-August) The Otipemisiwak Mtis Government is recruiting for one (1) full-time, temporary Summer Emergency Management Assistant. This a summer term position with an end date of August 28, 2026. Reporting to the Manager of Emergency Management, the successful candidate will help develop and communicate emergency preparedness information, while also supporting efforts to enhance emergency management readiness for the Mtis community. The Summer Emergency Management Assistant will have excellent technical and communication skills and will be required to both take direction and work intuitively to support the completion of the department''s goals and objectives in a professionally and culturally appropriate manner. Key Responsibilities Aid in developing emergency preparedness information. Assist with emergency management preparedness for citizens. Support the Manager of Emergency Management, Emergency Management Coordinator, and the Emergency Management Assistant with Emergency Management Program development and facilitation. Assist in facilitating the development of preparedness and other emergency management training. Support on-going citizen emergency management requests. Present a positive and professional image of the organization when interacting with employees, citizens, visitors, and other external stakeholders. Assist with administration of Otipemisiwak Mtis Government Provincial events & programs. Other duties as required or assigned. Skills & Competencies We are looking for a motivated, confident individual who is passionate about emergency management and community engagement, with excellent communication skills. Commitment to teamwork and collaboration with colleagues is required. Other skills/competencies include: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including professional email etiquette and strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills. Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships. Strong planning and organizational skills, with an ability to organize and prioritize daily tasks and long-term objectives. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, and willingness to learn new skills. Flexible and adaptable, with an ability to switch between multiple priorities. Ability to work with and convey messages to different audiences. Ability to produce professional reports, documents, and presentations. Proficient in Microsoft Suite applications, Adobe, and using other computer software. Political and cultural sensitivity. Knowledge of Mtis history, culture, and issues affecting Mtis people. An in-depth understanding of the Otipemisiwak Mtis Government and Mtis culture, people, and values is an asset. Knowledge of Alberta plant vegetation and identification is an asset. Qualifications Obtained or pursuing post-secondary education in Emergency Management, or a related field is preferred. Other relevant training and experience will be considered. 1-2 years related experience in program delivery. School or volunteering experience is valid. Experience working with Indigenous communities is an asset. Other Requirements Availability to work Monday to Friday, 8:30 am 4:30 pm. Ability to work evenings and weekends, with notice. Ability to travel throughout Alberta is a requirement. Reliable transportation and valid Class 5 driver''s license.
