Job Title: Crosswalk Guard/Janitor Reporting to: Director of Capital Assets Hours of work: 8:30 am to 3:30 pm (Monday to Thursday and 3:00 pm on Fridays) Location: Eskasoni Elementary & Middle School Employment status: Full-time employment Starting Salary: $39,964.00 Summary: The Crossing Guard/Janitor is responsible for managing the flow of traffic to ensure the safe passage of students in the crosswalk area going to and from the school. This position also assists with janitorial tasks outside of peak pedestrian times to ensure school grounds and facilities are maintained, clean, safe, and sanitary. Responsibilities: Coordinate the flow of students crossing the crosswalk with the flow of vehicles. Guide, direct, and escort students at the school crossing location. Report student or driver accidents, incidents, and issues to the supervisor. Clean and disinfect washrooms and fixtures. Clean up spills and debris from the floors. Sweep and mop floors. Empty trash cans and other waste containers. Spot clean walls and floors as necessary. Clean glass surfaces, windows, and washroom mirrors as necessary. Ensure proper disinfectant procedures are followed. Assist day janitors and maintenance personnel as needs arise. Assist with moving furniture, equipment, and supplies. Assist with grounds keeping. Other related duties as assigned by the supervisor. Requirements: Grade 12 or equivalent/experience Traffic Control training is an asset Ability to perform physical requirements of the position, including working outdoors in varying weather conditions (rain, snow, cold, heat) Janitorial experience and training in commercial cleaning procedures required Effective interpersonal and organizational skills Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral form Willingness to work as part of the school support team First Aid and WHMIS required. Fluency in Mi''kmaq and English is required.
