Company Description About This Opportunity Dartmouth General Hospital (DGH)is seeking hospitalists to join their team. The majority of patients within this hospital are rostered to our team ofhospitalists, with the Internal Medicine Departmentprimarily serving as a consulting service.Dartmouth General Hospital is an acute care hospital with 24-hour emergency, inpatient and outpatient, medical, surgical, and critical care that has been operating since 1976. Located in Dartmouth, it serves approximately 300,000 people each year from Dartmouth and Halifax Regional Municipality. The group of DGH Hospitalists cares for approximately 180 patients daily. The facility offers extensive outpatient services, outreach programs, and medical diagnostics and also has an extensive surgical program, including: General surgery Urology Gynecology Ear nose and throat Orthopedics Plastic surgery Oral maxillofacial Ophthalmology Vascular Dentistry Services Anesthesiology Cancer and supportive care Respiratory services Emergency medicine Diagnostic imaging (general radiography, mammography, CT scanning) Laboratory services Renal dialysis Pharmacy Medical and surgical unit Rehabilitation services Physiotherapy Gynecology Occupational therapy Volunteer services General surgery Plastic surgery Otolaryngology (ENT: ear nose and throat) Nutrition and diabetic counselling Job Description Responsibilities Provide direct inpatient care for patients admitted to the DGH Hospitalist Service Provide a full range of clinical care inpatient care, in keeping with the Canadian Society of Hospital Medicine''s Core Competencies in Hospital Medicine Most responsible physician (MRP) coverage for admitted patients, ensuring all laboratory, imaging consultation and other reports are received and reviewed daily Equitable participation in after-hours call coverage Participation in daily flow discussions Embrace the Home First Philosophy of NS Health in efficient discharge planning with focus on expected length of stay with patient/caregivers at time of admission Participate in Quality improvement, operational and research initiatives Attend site-based physician meetings Demonstrate commitment to delivering the highest quality care and maintenance of competence Coordinate care with members of the inter-professional team for the provision of quality care, including regular interdisciplinary team rounds Demonstrate a commitment to delivering the highest quality care and maintenance of competence Attend site-based physician meetings as outlined by the Central Zone Department Head of Hospital Medicine, and Site Hospitalist Lead(s) Expected Hours Locum, full-time, or part-time Schedule is flexible (typical full-time schedule isoneweek on/one week off) Participate in weekend rounds proportional to weekday work Participate in after-hours call (2-4 shifts/month for full-time) Qualifications All applicants must be eligible for licensure with theCollege of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia(CPSNS) All specialists must be eligible for certification with theRoyal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada(RCPSC) Membership with theCanadian Medical Protective Association(CMPA) Active with admitting privileges at DGH site via NSH Credentialing Committee All applicants must have up to date ACLS certification Membership in the Society of Hospital Medicine, Canadian Chapter is encouraged Academic teaching appointment with Dalhousie University is an asset Additional Information Community Details Known affectionately as the City of Lakes,Dartmouthsits across the harbour from Halifax, sharing its urban energy and cosmopolitan feel but with a charm all its own.
