Summary: The General Superintendent Structural is heavily involved in the day-to-day operations of all major municipal and private projects awarded to Clearway Construction that includes but not limited to concrete pours, formwork placement and designs, reinforcing steel placement, concrete finishing, and other critical structural tasks. An integral part of each project starting from the pre-construction stage to final completion, the General Superintendent Structural is a vital part of each project''s success. Reporting to the General Superintendent Structural, will be all Heavy Civil Unionized Field Staff. The General Superintendent Structural will ensure that Clearway Construction is to deliver high-quality projects with a focus on safety, innovation, and sustainability. The General Superintendent Structural will report directly to the Vice President, Construction. As a heavy civil contractor, Clearway''s workforce requirements can fluctuate with project schedules and anticipated contract awards. We are currently seeking skilled candidates to join our team and encourage qualified applicants to submit their application. Location:Job Sites located across the Greater Toronto Area. Hours of Operation: 7:00 am to 5:30 pm (EST) Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Construction Planning: Analyze specifications and construction drawings and complete/participate in completing the construction plan and construction schedule, particularly the structural concrete components, to ensure that all relevant details (such as slab thickness, reinforcement, concrete grades, concrete curing, formwork designs and finishing requirements) are well-defined prior to mobilization to project site; Review the estimate that was prepared for the project, to gain a better understanding of how it was bid, and ensure that the Project Team can plan effectively while following Clearway standards and procedures; Review necessary contract documents (e.g. contract drawings, specifications, rebar drawings, formwork drawings, schedules, etc.) that have been prepared for the project, to become familiar with the overall project needs, the major milestones for the project, along with any applicable operational and/or working constraints, to support the Project Team in determining schedules, resource requirements and allocations; Conduct site visits when requested by the Estimating department, and/or Vice President, Construction; Work closely with the Estimating department when requested to assist with project bids, while providing feedback to the Estimating department based on actual work completion; Attend and participate in meetings both internally and externally (Pre-Con, Resource, Estimating Handovers, Equipment, Health and Safety, Project Progress, Project Closeout etc.); Assess the job tasks and requirements, in conjunction with the Project Team (e.g., Site Walks); Discuss daily equipment needs with the Construction Resource Manager and identify any future needs with the Vice President, Construction; Plan and implement schedules with the Project Team to determine crew/manpower levels and ensure proper equipment and subcontractors are available as required for the project; Research solutions with Project Managers, Project Coordinators and Construction Site Superintendents to recommend solutions to design problems including conflicts, unidentified existing interferences and errors/omissions; Responsible for formwork designs and other engineering structural designs, if applicable; Constructability review and engineering consultation. Project Supervision and Oversight: Supervise Field Staff with construction of all projects in strict accordance with the contract documents, Clearway''s standards and procedures, training modules and industry best practices; Senior advisor to Field Staff and Project Coordinators in a day-to-day coordination of material supply and subcontractors, including maintenance of satisfactory relationships with Owners, Subcontractors, Unions, etc.; Responsible to ensure there is clear communication between all parties (Site Superintendent, Project Coordinator, Project Manager); Attend and from time-to-time lead project meetings with internal and external parties to monitor and support the project; Advise Project Managers and Project Coordinators of potential problems, work interferences and schedule difficulties and assist in resolving these problems; Review up-to-date cost reports with the Project Manager to analyze, determine solutions and correct any tasks that are not within budget; Complete additional assignments and responsibilities as requested by the Vice President, Construction, Director of Concrete; Support the Director of Concrete with day-to-day planning and execution of third-party contracts, including supervising, field staffing, and equipment allocations. Training, Mentorship and Relationship Management: Serve as a mentor in training Project Team and crew members by providing guidance on safety, quality standards, and efficient work practices; Stay up to date on relevant Union Agreements; On-Board/Off-Board employees when required by working closely with Human Resources to do so; Develop strong working relationships with Union Representatives, Owners, Clients, Consultants, Suppliers and Subcontractors; Monitor the Project Team''s daily activities, and address any issues or concerns promptly; Lead by example by staying current with industry trends, technology, and best practices, and sharing relevant information with the team; Foster a work culture that encourages respect, teamwork, and mutual support, which ultimately contributes to increased productivity and morale; Establish a reputation for reliability, professionalism, and transparency, which will enhance long-term business relationships and contribute to securing future projects; Represent the company at industry events, union meetings, and networking functions when requested; Assist both the Vice President, Construction and Director of Concrete with building a strong talent pool of employees; Build a professional network that supports the company''s reputation and growth; Promote and maintain culture of collaboration, pride of work and professionalism throughout the company; Health and Safety, and Quality Compliance: Serve as a safety leader on the job site, by consistently modeling safe work practices and setting the standard for safety behavior; Promote a proactive safety culture that emphasizes the importance of safety at every level, from senior management to field workers; Ensure verification and enforcement of safety compliance and quality-control policies with all labour forces including subcontractors; Ensure all daily activities including: labour and equipment allocation, Health and Safety documentation, incidents, equipment/vehicle damages are logged and maintained in a journal; Be an active member of the Joint H&S Committee. Requirements: Engineering Degree (Civil/Structural Engineering preferred) or Construction Management Degree with extensive structural construction experience 10+ years of progressive experience in structural construction, including concrete, formwork, steel, and structural systems Demonstrated experience in a senior site leadership role (General Superintendent or Senior Superintendent level) Strong passion for construction and hands-on field leadership Thorough understanding of structural sequencing, means and methods, and constructability Well-developed interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills Proven ability to lead, mentor, and manage large site teams, including superintendents, forepersons, and trade partners Excellent client-facing skills with the ability to represent the company professionally with owners, consultants, and inspectors Strong planning, scheduling, and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple work fronts and priorities Advanced problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills with strong attention to detail Effective time management skills and ability to work under strict deadlines and schedule constraints Skilled in negotiation, conflict resolution, and issue escalation Ability to work independently while fostering a collaborative team environment Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Proficient in the English language (written and oral) with strong listening and communication skills Self-motivated, driven, and accountable with a strong sense of ownership over project outcomes Valid Ontario Driver''s License Benefits: Competitive Salary with annual cost of living increases Annual Bonus Program Group RRSP with 100% Matching 100% Company Paid Benefits Extended Health Care Dental Care Vision Care Disability Insurance Vacation & Personal Days, plus Paid Holiday Shutdown Parental Leave Top-up Program Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Life Insurance Wellness Programs Free On-site Parking Casual Dress Salary Range: $140,000 - $160,000 (CAD) The posted salary range is intended to provide transparency and may vary based on experience, skills, and qualifications.
