Discover The Opportunity Build Nova Scotia''s Strategic Infrastructure Division (SID) is seeking a Summer Student for the 2026 term. We are looking for ''systems thinkers'' from Business, Computer Science, or Design who are curious about how the internal ''gears'' of a large organization turn. In this role, you won''t just be observing; you will be helping us map, understand, and redefine how we work. By identifying ways to make our systems more effective and efficient, you will ensure our Project Delivery professionals can focus their energy on the complex task of building Nova Scotia''s strategic infrastructure. Your primary focus will be to engage with leaders across Project Delivery, Procurement, Human Resources, the Project Management Office (PMO), and Executive Leadership Team to investigate and optimize key business processes. Partnering with experienced advisors, you will analyze how we find talent, navigate contracts, and manage the financial health of major provincial projects. By the end of the summer, you will have created tangible artifacts for staff reference and onboarding, culminating in a high-profile final presentation of your findings to our Executive Leadership Team. What you''ll do Responsibilities Under the supervision of advisors within the Strategic Infrastructure Division, the responsibilities of this position will include: Mapping and optimizing key organizational processes, including: Recruitment, Procurement, and Budgeting, to improve division-wide efficiency. Engaging with stakeholders across business areas to understand roles, accountabilities, and current workflows. Conducting research and analysis through interviews and internal reviews to identify bottlenecks and opportunities for improvement. Creating digital and physical artifacts, such as process maps and visual guides, to support staff navigation and new employee onboarding. Synthesizing findings into progress updates for the SID Leadership Team and a final strategic presentation for the Executive Leadership Team. Supporting the division by completing smaller assignments and tasks related to strategic infrastructure objectives. What you''ll need Qualifications Education: Currently enrolled in a full-time post-secondary program (undergraduate or graduate) in Business, Computer Science, or Design and returning to studies in Fall 2026. Systems Thinking: A natural ability to see how different departments and processes connect to form a larger whole. Growth & Resilience: A strong learning mindset with the resilience to navigate complex organizational structures and learn from experience. Analytical Skills: The ability to conduct research, synthesize information, and visualize data into clear process maps. Communication & Influence: Strong written, listening, and spoken communication skills, with the ability to understand complex information and interpret Team-Player: Experience holding a leadership and team roles in a student or professional society is an asset. Professionalism: A commitment to working with integrity, curiosity, and collaboration.
