We are currently looking for a Water & Tailings Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will showcase your technical expertise by developing and stewarding sitewide water balance and maintaining longrange tailings models that support strategic planning across our operations. You''ll collaborate closely with Tailings Engineering, Geotechnical, Operations, and Process teams to align forecasts, identify risks and opportunities, and drive optimized water and tailings system performance. Job location:Calgary, Alberta Shift schedule:5 x 2, 8-hour shifts (Monday - Friday) Safety sensitive position:Yes Application deadline:February 11, 2026 Key Accountabilities: Develop, manage, and routinely update long-term, site-wide integrated water balance models for two mining operations Identify risks and opportunities related to water supply, storage, discharge, and regulatory compliance Maintain and update the long-range tailings model, incorporating deposition plans, beach development, consolidation, and storage capacity forecasts Coordinate with tailings engineers, geotechnical teams, and operations to ensure alignment between water and tailings forecasts Develop recommendations for water balance and tailings system optimizations, including: Fluid transfer strategies Storage or reclaim modifications Operational controls to manage risks Conduct scenario analyses and sensitivity testing to support long-term planning Review and provide feedback on external scientific journal articles related to Oil Sands Mine Water and represent Canadian Natural at external organizations, conferences and workshops What You Bring to the Role: Bachelor''s degree in Engineering (e.g., Environmental, Geological, Mining, Chemical) or a relateddiscipline Eligibility for or registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) is required 7 plus years of relevant experience in tailings management, mine water management, or hydrotechnical engineering (Operational mining experience is strongly preferred) Proficient in GoldSim or similar software, with experience building and maintaining advanced, dynamic water balance or tailings models Strong PI System skills, including interpreting process data and integrating data streams into modeling workflows Advanced Excel skills, including VBA/macros, scenario modeling, and data visualization What We Offer: Competitive salary, stock options, company matched stock savings plan, annual bonuses May be eligible for relocation pursuant to Canadian Natural''s Relocation Policy 100% Employer paid extended Health, Dental and Vision Benefits Health & Wellness Spending Account Multiple volunteer opportunities within the community Employee & Family Assistance Program Access to online learning platforms for continuous learning and development Paid vacation and time off during Christmas week and summer Fridays Check out ourCOMPENSATION & BENEFITSto learn more about what we have to offer
