This role is a salaried management position. Hours of Work: Regular hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. As a senior management role, additional hours may be required based on business needs. This position is classified as exempt from overtime in accordance with the Ontario Employment Standards Act (ESA). Position Summary The Senior Technical Manager, Maintenance & Tooling is responsible for leading and optimizing all maintenance, tooling, and technical operations to ensure maximum equipment reliability, safety, and efficiency. This role oversees preventive and predictive maintenance programs, tooling design and management, and continuous improvement initiatives to support production goals. The position requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and a strategic mindset to drive operational excellence. Responsibilities include overseeing all aspects of the maintenance and tooling department, ensuring alignment with Company goals. This involves setting targets for continuous improvement in line with KCC and KNA objectives. A key focus is ensuring the adequacy of policies, procedures, and resources to achieve these goals. Essential Functions Ensure Standard Quality Customer Delivery (SQCD) requirements are achieved through continuous improvement. Execute the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle to meet KCC metrics and Business Plan objectives: Develop plans to meet all targets. Establish meaningful metrics to monitor progress. Immediately address gaps and ensure team members set effective countermeasures. Once targets are met, create new improvement plans and continue the PDCA cycle. Leadership & Strategy: Develop and implement maintenance and tooling strategies aligned with organizational goals. Lead, mentor, and develop maintenance and tooling specialists. Establish KPIs for equipment uptime, tooling performance, and maintenance efficiency. Provide consistent coaching and counseling for associates in managerial and supervisory roles. Support associate development by identifying growth opportunities and strengthening team capabilities. Foster a cooperative, enthusiastic, and positive work environment. Technical Management Oversee daily injection molding operations to meet production targets. Ensure machines, tooling, and processes run efficiently, safely, and with minimal downtime. Coordinate with production planners, supervisors, and maintenance teams to optimize workflow. Monitor OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) and drive improvements. Maintenance Management Oversee preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs. Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements. Implement a training plan for maintenance technicians. Tooling Management Direct the development and maintenance of production tooling. Collaborate with engineering and production teams to meet tooling quality and efficiency requirements. Implement tooling improvement initiatives to reduce downtime and increase productivity. Continuous Improvement Lead root cause analyses and corrective actions for equipment issues. Apply Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies to improve reliability and reduce waste. Stay current on emerging technologies and industry best practices in maintenance and tooling. Budget & Reporting Develop and manage budgets for technical, maintenance and tooling departments. Prepare reports on equipment performance, maintenance activities, and cost-saving initiatives. Additional duties as assigned. Proven ability to lead high-performing teams through strategic planning, effective decision-making, and clear communication with diverse stakeholders. Strong background in maintenance and tooling management, with deep knowledge of mechanical systems, tooling design, and maintenance best practices. Skilled in navigating complex and dynamic business environments, adapting to industry changes, and guiding teams through organizational transitions. Demonstrated success in achieving operational and organizational goals, driving performance, and fostering a collaborative, positive, and ethical team culture. Experienced in mentoring and developing managers and technical staff, promoting continuous learning and professional growth. Excellent problem-solving and project management capabilities, with a proactive approach to high-pressure or time-sensitive situations. Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) and ability to implement best-practice maintenance processes. Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field (Masters preferred). Preferred Skills Experience with automation and advanced manufacturing technologies.
