Overview North Wilts Golf Club, Wiltshire England (South West & Wales region) Job Title: Course Manager Location: North Wilts Golf Club Contract: Full Time, Permanent Hours: 40 hours per week (variable work pattern, includes some weekend working) Reports to: The Club Secretary and elected Executive Members About North Wilts Golf Club North Wilts is a downland golf course set in stunning scenery with a warm welcome. The club has hosted National and Regional competitions and is one of the finest clubs in Wiltshire. Founded in 1890, it is wholly owned by its members and situated between Calne and Devizes, close to Marlborough and accessible via major roads. The club is forward-thinking with a clear vision to develop the course each year. Recent enhancements include renovation of the professional shop, a state-of-the-art golf studio, upgraded course paths and tees, and a course design and irrigation improvement review by leading market specialists. An active investment programme has driven significant improvements on and off the course. An opportunity has arisen for a new Course Manager to join the team. Club Details: Total Members: 730; Greens Team: 5 full-time & 1 part-time; Holes: 18; Practice facilities: Driving range (short range), short game area & putting greens; Course architect: Harry Colt; Grass types: Greens Poa/bent mix; Tees & Outfields broader mix of fescues, meadows and ryes. Website: Role and Responsibilities Course Manager Role The Course Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance of all areas of the golf course, including tees, fairways, greens, bunkers and rough. They ensure the course is safe, aesthetically pleasing, and in optimal condition for play. The role also includes managing staff, budgeting, and working with other departments to maintain the courses high standards. Key Attributes Minimum of 3 to 5 years experience as a deputy/head greenkeeper/course manager Qualified to NVQ Level 3 or higher in Greenkeeping & Sports Turf Management Evidence of Active and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Spraying certification PA1, PA2 and PA6 CS30, CS31 Chainsaw Strong knowledge of turf management, irrigation systems, agronomy, disease control, and machinery operation Project management and organisational skills Strong strategic and budgetary planning skills Excellent IT skills and ability to manage key golf course performance indicators Good interpersonal and communication skills Good working knowledge and ability to implement Health and Safety processes and legislation Ability to work as part of a team and develop and motivate the teams individual competencies Ability to work constructively and efficiently with external specialists and/or contractors Qualifications Education: A degree or diploma in turf management, horticulture, or a related field is often preferred Experience: Previous experience in greenkeeping or turf management, with at least a few years in a supervisory role Certifications: Certifications in pesticide application and other relevant greenkeeping courses Staff Management: Lead a team of greenkeepers, assign daily tasks, set work schedules, provide training and development, and ensure safety standards Equipment Management: Ensure equipment is in good working order; schedule maintenance and repairs; oversee inventory Budgeting & Administration: Prepare and manage the maintenance budget; keep records of maintenance activities, weather conditions, and treatments; advise on capital expenditure Health & Safety/Environmental: Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations; conduct risk assessments; proper chemical storage and handling Course Improvement & Development: Develop and implement long-term maintenance and improvement plans; participate in major course renovations as required Communication: Liaise with management, other departments, and members to ensure smooth operations; address course-related concerns with the executive team Customer Experience: Maintain an attractive course that plays to a high standard; monitor and respond to player feedback Competitive salary and remuneration will be in line with the role and based on the candidates experience, skills and qualifications.
