Department Development Services Department - Planning Division Assists staff with planning inquiries, studies, research, and the preparation of reports on matters relating to the Citys land use planning and development policies. Employment Details Employment Status: Student Union: CUPE 855 Inside Open To: Internal/External Applicant(s) Closing Date: 01/07/2026 Duration (if temporary): Student, approximately May to September Job Title: Summer Students - Planning Wage: $19.92 hourly (2026) Reports To: Manager, Planning Department: Development Services Location: Planning, 180 Kent Street, Lindsay Hours: Summer Full Time, 35 hours per week. Other: General office environment. Some travel throughout the City of Kawartha Lakes may be necessary in accordance with job requirements. About the Program The City of Kawartha Lakes is hiring summer students, and we''re looking for innovative and passionate individuals interested in a four-month position from May to August. Our Summer Student Program introduces students to the public sector through challenging experiences, while providing meaningful opportunities to contribute to the community. Summer employment with the City of Kawartha Lakes can be a great way to earn and learn. Eligibility Minimum of age 16 Registered as a full time student during the preceding academic year, 2025 to 2026 Registered as a full time student with the intent to return to school on a full time basis during the next academic year, 2026 to 2027 Job Description Assist the development Services Planning Division in a broad range of environmental, land-use, and broader community development projects and processes to support the Municipalitys Strategic Plan. Assisting Planners with research, analysis, problem solving, policy evaluation and development, report writing, mapping, and preparation of display materials for tribunals and hearings. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Currently enrolled in planning, geography, environmental studies, or related program. Intermediate computer skills and experience with GIS software. Strong verbal and written communications skills. Customer service skills and experience working in a team environment an asset.
