Overview Who we are The Mikisew Cree First Nation (Mikisew) has lived on the ancestral lands of the Athabasca Delta and Wood Buffalo National Park in northeastern Alberta since time immemorial. The lives of our members are linked to the land and to a close understanding of traditions, history and a natural way of life. Many of our members live in the hamlet of Fort Chipewyan, and our traditional lands range over a large portion of Athabasca oil sands deposits. Who you are Mikisew Awasis Kisiwatsowin Society is seeking a Post Majority Worker who will be responsible for empowering our young community members who are aging out of care and/or are young adults formerly in care. This position will develop and implement effective strategies to support the youth and young adults to reach self-sufficiency within their communities. This position is based in Edmonton, AB. Roles and Responsibilities Develop support programs that would aid the out of care young adults to easily access culturally appropriate support and services that meet their needs. Complete intake assessments with members. Collect and document data to track client successes. Assist members in goal setting based on individual needs assessments. Maintain regular contact with the network of service providers. Participate in meetings with supervisor to evaluate the members program progress. Complete appropriate paperwork for program reporting and communication. Coordinate family reconnection of out of care young adults. Maintain confidentiality and follow ethical and legal standards. Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the agencies objectives. Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent required. Post secondary education or certifications in Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Indigenous Studies, or a related human services field is preferred. Experience working with Indigenous youth. A combination of training and lived experience may be considered. Proficient in documentation and case management systems. Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Understanding of Indigenous culture, history and values. Knowledge of the child welfare system, youth development, and trauma-informed practice. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other office management software. Strong organizational and multitasking skills. Strong communication and interpersonal abilities. Attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively. Ability to speak and/or understand the Cree language would be an asset. Requirements Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector. Child Intervention Record Check. Possess a valid Class 5 drivers licence with a Satisfactory 5-year Drivers Abstract. Willingness and ability to travel as required. Willingness and ability to work after hours and/or weekends when required. Willingness to submit to an oath of confidentiality.
