Job Description

Overview As a key member of the BUCHI team, a Field Service Engineer (FSE) has the primary responsibility of providing direct on-site service for all BUCHI product sets in an assigned territory. The FSE will be located remotely but will liaise with corporate headquarters in New Castle, Delaware and provide services such as installation, IQ/OQ, basic operational training, preventative maintenance, calibration, and repair to customers. BUCHI will provide full training on how to support and repair all instruments as part of the onboarding and training process. A successful candidate would be someone with strong customer service and communication skills, as well as a strong background in troubleshooting and repair. Transferable skills for this role would be any electronics repair and troubleshooting experience, PC repair and troubleshooting, or industrial equipment repair. Work Location -> The ideal candidate would be located within a 1-hour drive of a major airport in Toronto or Montreal. Travel Requirements Field Service Engineers spend approximately 50-80% of their week traveling, including occasional international travel. Travel will require overnight stays multiple times a week, in some cases travel can require you to be away for up to a full week or more at a time. All travel expenses are covered by Buchi. Specific Responsibilities Respond to customers who contact the BUCHI headquarters or the FSE directly within four business hours. Provide customers with a diagnosis of the problem and a recommendation of options to solve the problem, such as maintenance or repair. Utilize schematic diagrams, electronic test equipment, hand tools and scientific concepts to support customers and to address the performance of BUCHI instruments. Perform installations, operational verifications, IQ/OQ, basic operational training, calibration, maintenance, and repairs of all BUCHI instruments as well as other defined services. Utilize Salesforce CRM to create service cases, submit tasks, and generate service reports as well as other defined requirements for CRM utilization. Be the point of contact for defined third party service vendors. Contribute to the development and growth of BUCHI service and sales by promoting the sale of service products such as contract and maintenance agreements. Establish and maintain a continuous open line of communication with the Service Manager; provide detailed documentation of travel, service reports and management of territory business objectives. Create and maintain good communication between current and prospective customers, field sales force, marketing teams, and corporate headquarters personnel. Work with Business Development Managers and Sales Account Managers to develop positive relationships with BUCHI prospective and existing customers. Apply commonly used concepts, practices, processes and procedures within the service industry. Become technically proficient on all BUCHI products. Maintain knowledge of applications and markets for BUCHI products. Maintain the highest level of professionalism, integrity and honesty to promote a positive BUCHI image. Follow a defined dress code when visiting customer sites. Maintain expenses for travel within established corporate guidelines. Follow established service policies. In case of any disruptions to business such as extreme weather, health related warnings, or other severe disruptions, the Field Service Engineer will be required to follow the guidelines set forth in the Business Continuation Recovery Plan, which may require work to be conducted from home with a reliable internet connection and phone service, which will be provided by the employer. In case of health related safety requirements, refer to guidelines published by the government authorities (or others) for all environmental cleaning and disinfection recommendations. In case of a business disruption, additional task to ensure business continuity can be assigned by the Service Manager. Other assigned tasks. Performance Expectations Conduct business in a professional manner via phone, email, and in person. Multi-task to ensure that all service inquiries are replied to in 4 hours or less Capture all contacts and activities in the CRM system to leverage BUCHI marketing, sales, and service efforts. Effectively communicate complex technical information in an accessible manner to non-technical personnel. Function as a back-up resource for other BUCHI service territories globally, as needed Required Skills BS degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or Computer Science Strong understanding of general electronic or computer operations. Strong acumen for troubleshooting and diagnosing complex systems. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
