Job Description

My client, The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, is undertaking the largest and most significant enterprise transformation in its history. This is a defining moment for the organization and a rare opportunity for a senior leader to help shape how a complex, missioncritical enterprise evolves. The Chief Operating Officer will sit at the centre of this transformation, integrating operations, finance, governance, data, technology, and people to ensure the Foundation is built to operate at sustained enterprise scale. This role is about strengthening the internal backbone that enables impact. The COO will provide enterpriselevel leadership and judgment, supporting sophisticated financial and operational stewardship, designing systems that scale responsibly, and helping to define what comes next as the organization continues to evolve over the long term. The work enables the research, care, and innovation funded by the Foundation, which has an impact that reaches far beyond the organization itself and touches millions of lives globally. About The Princess Margaret Foundation: The vision of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation is to create a world free from the fear of cancer. The Foundation exists to fuel research, clinical care, and innovation at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, part of University Health Network (UHN), that would not exist without philanthropic support. The Cancer Centre is consistently recognized as one of the worlds leading cancer research centres, with a global impact that extends far beyond Canada. While many people know the Foundation through its highprofile lottery programs, it has many longstanding, successful programs that support a deeply integrated Cancer Centre ecosystem spanning innovative care, scientific discovery, commercialization, and international research partnerships. The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre researchers and clinicians collaborate with leading institutions around the globe, translating breakthroughs from lab to bedside and shaping how cancer is prevented, detected, treated, and survived worldwide. At its core, the Foundation is guided by strong values that shape how the work gets done. Collaboration, accountability, respect, and excellence underpin the culture, reflected in how teams work together, how donors and partners are engaged, and how stewardship of every dollar is approached. This valuesdriven mindset is central to sustaining trust, advancing impact, and ensuring the Foundation continues to lead in an increasingly complex landscape. About the Opportunity: This role exists because the transformation ahead cannot be delivered through incremental change or functional leadership alone. Partnering closely with the CEO and the Executive Leadership Team, the COO will integrate operations, governance, data, technology, people, and financial oversight into a single, coherent operating model. While the role is titled COO, it carries CFOcalibre responsibility and enterprise accountability, reflecting the need for disciplined financial judgment alongside operational leadership. This is a mandate for a seasoned leader who thrives in moments of change, brings clarity to complexity, and is comfortable serving as the backbone of an organization as it evolves. Candidates selected for an initial conversation will receive a comprehensive job profile in advance that outlines the role''s full scope, expectations, and context. Role Focus (High-Level) Act as the internal operational backbone of the organization, providing clarity, judgment, and alignment across a complex stakeholder environment.
