Job Description

Jr EstimatorOur client is an established custom equipment and component manufacturer with over 25 years of history. They are looking for an Jr Estimator to join their team at their Mississauga location.As an Estimator, you will prepare detailed and well-supported estimates based on customer specifications and project requirements. The role involves reviewing drawings, developing cost breakdowns, assisting with preliminary design considerations, and coordinating with Production, Quality, Purchasing, and Engineering. After order acceptance, you will help transfer finalized information to Engineering for production.Role and Responsibilities EstimatingGather, analyze, and validate cost data for materials, external services, labor, and inventory related to custom screen and fabrication projects.Collaborate with Production to understand manufacturing processes including welding, machining, threading, forming, water-jet cutting, and other fabrication steps, along with associated labor durations.Prepare detailed cost estimates with clear assumptions and supporting documentation for Sales presentations and internal review.Ensure estimates align with manufacturing capabilities, quality requirements, and project timelines.Engineering SupportParticipate in internal technical review and kickoff meetings for complex or custom orders involving Engineering, Quality, Sales, Purchasing, Project Management, and Production.Review customer drawings, specifications, and technical requirements to determine manufacturability, appropriate materials, slot sizes, tolerances, and fabrication methods.Provide input on preliminary design concepts and feasibility before final engineering approval.Purchasing SupportAssist the Purchasing Manager by identifying required materials, specifications, and quantities during the estimating phase.Request, review, and compare supplier quotes to support accurate material and subcontract cost estimates.Communicate with suppliers as needed to clarify technical requirements, lead times, availability, and pricing.Support purchasing decisions by providing cost comparisons, historical pricing data, and estimating input.Help ensure selected materials and suppliers align with project requirements, quality standards, and delivery schedules.Customer & Internal CommunicationWork with Sales to ensure timely and accurate quote turnaround.Assist in responding to customer or internal inquiries related to technical requirements, material availability, or estimate details.Support preparation of documentation such as material certifications, drawing references, or clarifications as needed.Administrative & Process SupportIdentify required project data early (material specs, tolerances, fabrication notes, quality requirements) and communicate expected timelines to Sales.Maintain organized documentation of estimates, revisions, and assumptions for traceability.Help ensure quotes and supporting details meet internal quality and compliance expectations.Qualifications Mechanical Engineering diploma or equivalent technical education.Knowledge and experience in:Piping systems and industrial componentsReading technical drawings, SolidWorks models, and manufacturing documentationExcel formulas, cost modeling, and data organizationFabrication processes, welding, machining, and metalworkingStrong communication and interpersonal skills for working across multiple departments.Excellent time-management skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with quick turnaround expectations.Hands-on experience in a machine shop or fabrication environment is an asset.
