The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has an opening for a temporary full-time Museum Collections Technician in the Arts & Culture area of the Community Culture & Connections division. This temporary full-time opportunity is for a period up to December 2027. Job description The Museum Technician will be responsible for working with museum collections management projects including tasks related to records management, accessioning/deaccessioning, digitization, and research. They must be flexible, be able to relocate operations when necessary, be able to work independently, know when to seek guidance, be comfortable with digitization, and manage repetitive tasks with thorough attention to detail. Essential responsibilities Demonstrate Chatham-Kent''s core values and competencies Update hard copy and electronic records Accession artifacts including determining their classification Photograph/scan artifacts; upload images, when applicable Update finding guides and inventories of artifact locations Identify missing artifacts Verify the provenance of artifacts Assist with proper labelling and storage of artifacts Propose artifacts for deaccessioning Essential qualifications College certificate or diploma (preferably in museum studies), with six (6) months to two (2) years related experience working with museum collections Experience working with databases (data entry, queries, reports) Strong technological skills (e.g., scanners and digital cameras) Strong computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) (or other similar software program) Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills, written and verbal Other qualifications Museum collections work experience an asset Work environment/hours of work This position works indoors This position works weekday, weekend, and evening hours Driver''s licence/vehicle requirements Because this position may be required to travel, a valid Province of Ontario driver''s license with a reliable motor vehicle is preferred. Background check requirements Successful candidates will be required to complete a background check prior to commencement of employment. A background check may include the following: education/certification verification and employment reference check. Because of the environment this position will be working in, the successful candidate will be required to furnish an original Police Information Search (criminal reference check) (working with vulnerable persons) prior to commencement of employment; you must be 18 years of age or older to obtain a vulnerable police check. Essential physical and/or safety requirements Walking: frequent walking on level surface (walking to access artifacts and the printer) Sitting: constant sitting in a chair (Most work will be done at a desk/computer) Standing: occasional standing inside Hands: constant fine finger dexterity (movement), mousing (database management will require use of a computer; some firms must be filled out by hand; artifact handling involving delicate objects) Benefits This temporary full-time position has an hourly wage of $29.673 to $32.248 and will receive 15% in lieu of benefits (which includes group benefits, statutory & non-statutory holidays, and non-enrolment in OMERS) and 4% vacation pay. Where a permanent employee is receiving benefits and is the successful candidate for a temporary vacancy, benefits will remain as per the policy manual.
