CHIEF OF DEPARTMENT, FAMILY MEDICINE Bruyre Health, an Academic Health Science Centre, excels in the provision of evidence-based health care and services for the vulnerable and medically complex, with a focus on persons who require sub-acute, geriatric, stroke or palliative care. Among other programs, Bruyre Health provides in-patient and out-patient clinical services in Care of the Elderly, Complex Continuing Care, Palliative Care, Family Medicine and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Bruyre is one of the largest health care centers of its kind in Canada and a resource for information on the special care required by the elderly, people with chronic and terminal illnesses, and persons having suffered loss of autonomy. Bruyre Health and the University of Ottawa, Department of Family Medicine, are seeking a physician leader to lead the clinical department, Care of the Elderly and the academic division of Care of the Elderly within the University of Ottawa, Department of Family Medicine. Skills Required: The successful candidate should have demonstrated academic and clinical leadership experience as well as strong organizational skills. The candidate must possess CFPC certification or equivalent with experience providing person centered care to the elderly; be licensed to practice medicine in Ontario; and be an active member of the medical staff or capable of obtaining active privileges. The ideal candidate would have training in medical management; physician and/or other health leadership and administrative experience; experience in leading various services and departments and excellent clinical skills with knowledge of best practice protocols, quality improvement and utilization management. Position Duties: The Chief of Department, Care of the Elderly is a member of the Professional Staff appointed by the Board of Directors to be responsible for, and accountable to the Chief of Staff for, the professional standards and quality of care rendered by the members of that department at Bruyre Health. Bruyre Health''s strategic and clinical plan emphasizes a focus on rehabilitation and aging. In support of the strategic direction, the conjoined Chair/Chief will: Develop the Division as an academic program, develop innovative approaches to traditional systems and clinical challenges to provide person centered care to the elderly. Develop the Division of COE as an academic leader in areas such as guideline development, care system development and design, evidence-based delivery models, and common clinical challenges in care of the elderly. Develop collaborative academic relationships between the division and other academic departments focusing on elder centred care system and common clinical challenges such as cognitive disorders. Develop an academic human resources plan in collaboration with the University Department and the Bruyre Health Research Institute (BHRI) that supports the achievement of these objectives. In addition to the strategic direction, the conjoint Chair/Chief will have oversight of the delivery of the Care of the Elderly academic programs of the Department of Family Medicine at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels at all educational sites. The Chair/Chief will be responsible for developing and executing a departmental human resource plan, as well as medical operational responsibility for the Department of Care of the Elderly in accordance with Bruyre Health''s policies, bylaws and procedures.
