Job Profile Job Profile Working under the supervision of the Vehicle Systems Supervisor, the Vehicle Systems Networking and Communications Technologist is responsible for installing/maintaining/adapting/deploying/testing/licensing of all software, and for interfacing of all bus-specific hardware and software in Plant and Equipment. This position is also the liaison with other branches of the City of Winnipeg (i.e. Departmental IT, Corporate IT and the Communications System''s Branch), coordinating different elements in regard to the communications equipment for future upgrades, research and development. Position has delegated administrative rights for the testing of infrastructure/development portals and performs research and development for all communications-related components for buses and their diagnostic equipment. As the Vehicle Systems Networking and Communications Technologist , your duties will include: Responsible for installing/maintaining/ repairing/ deploying / testing / upgrading / patching / and licensing of all separate and unique software and hardware for vehicle interfacing (bus-specific communications for the fleet). Responsible for networking communications with bus equipment Provides technology and networking support function for Winnipeg Transit''s Plant and Equipment needs Triage all of the DVR hard drives for the electrical department. Responsible for developing product enhancements for alternate energy vehicles e.g. Zero emissions buses, in conjunction with New Flyer''s New Product Development Team and LTE communications. Qualifications Your education and qualifications include: Bachelor''s degree in computer science, a Community College diploma in Computer Science or a directly related field; or equivalent training and experience. In addition, a CCNP (Cisco Certified Networking Professional) or equivalent, MECP (Mobile electronic certified Professional) or equivalent. Minimum of two (2) years'' experience in networking and communications systems, working with unique software and hardware. Minimum of two (2) years'' experience with diagnosing electrical system faults using PC based diagnostics, wiring diagrams and circuit test equipment. Experience in vehicle control multiplexing is preferred. Experience in the installation and repair of electronic vehicle components e.g. radio, video, DVR, AVL and fare collection systems would be preferred. Knowledge and understanding of High Voltage Safety requirements Proficient at understanding, design, and diagnosis of network infrastructure. Proficient at diagnosing, and repairing/replacing computer component hardware, and software. Proficient at diagnosing electrical system faults using PC based diagnostics, wiring diagrams, PLC logic, and circuit test equipment. Ability to work efficiently and effectively with minimum supervision. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with employees at all levels of the organization and liaise effectively with outside suppliers and manufactures. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to instruct and train employees in new procedures and techniques.
