Job Description

General information Universit Laval is seeking applications for a faculty position in its animation arts and science programs. These programs offer solid training in 3D, 2D, and volume animation, based on the project management model used in studios. They constantly monitor technological developments to integrate innovations and societal issues. These programs are part of the School of Design, which also offers programs in graphic, interaction design, and product design. The School of Design is located in the heart of Quebec City''s Saint-Roch district and benefits from a collaborative work environment with technological, artistic, and cultural partners (animation, visual effects, and video game studios, etc.). The successful candidate will join a dynamic team working in animation, design, and research-creation, and will contribute to the development of undergraduate and graduate programs. Job Description The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching advanced technological principles of animated and cinematographic image production. Required profile High-level senior generalist and/or technical director (TD), capable of conceptualizing, structuring, maintaining, and supervising the entire production workflow (including artistic and technical direction). Examples of tasks and expertise: scene construction, revision tracking (versioning), asset management, optimization, simulation, rendering engine, image composition, automation, integration of generative AI tools, and technology watch. Teaching and research The teacher will be required to convey a systemic understanding of the moving image production chain, including: Advanced workflow architectures (USD, Houdini, Nuke, Shotgrid). Expertise in artistic and technical direction (consistency between creative vision and technological constraints). Integration of emerging technologies (generative AI, hybrid 2D/3D tools). Production flow optimization and advanced image composition/construction methodologies. Critical and creative integration of generative AI technologies into educational content. Conduct a research or research-creation program focusing on moving image technologies, production flow engineering, or the use of AI in animation and visual effects. Significant work experience (minimum 8 years) in key positions in the animation industry, recognized by peers. High-level generalist expertise with a thorough understanding of the artistic and technical direction of productions. Proficiency in tools and production workflows. Proven interest and skills in the integration of AI technologies (creative and educational) with critical thinking on artistic, ethical, and societal issues. Vision in line with the program''s orientations and values. Good command of written and spoken French (training available to perfect French language skills). Assets Doctorate (Ph.D.) in a related field. Research-creation or research portfolio demonstrating an ability to obtain external funding and publish/disseminate in recognized venues. University teaching experience. Experience in directing or co-directing graduate student projects. Experience in interdisciplinary collaboration. Sensitivity to equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) issues.
