Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Vice President, Corporate Tax, will oversee a large international team and be responsible for strategic and operational leadership for the global tax strategy, governance, compliance, and optimization for Emera. This position oversees tax matters across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring full compliance with domestic and international tax laws while driving tax efficiencies that support the companys financial, operational, and sustainability goals. The VP, Corporate Tax serves as a trusted advisor to the CFO, Executive Leadership Team, and Board of Directors on the tax and tax related financial reporting implications of key business decisions, including clean energy transition initiatives. The role will also actively support and lead tax considerations for M&A activity, divestitures and major capital investments. Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Governance Develop and execute a global tax strategy that aligns with the companys long-term business, regulatory, and capital plans. Serve as the primary point of contact for tax matters with executive leadership and the Boards Audit Committee. Establish strong tax governance frameworks, policies, controls, and risk management strategies. Tax Advisory & Planning Provide executive-level tax advice on complex utility-sector issues including regulated rate structures, tax accounting models, and clean energy focused investment structures and investment tax credits. Evaluate tax impacts of major transactions, including M&A, joint ventures, divestitures, large infrastructure projects, and financings. Compliance & Reporting Oversee preparation and timely filing of domestic and international corporate income tax returns and non-income based tax returns. Ensure accurate tax accounting under US GAAP, including reporting for quarterly and annual financial statements and MD&A disclosures. Lead global tax controversy and audit management with domestic and international tax authorities. Team & Stakeholder Leadership Lead and develop a high-performing global tax team, including specialists across various jurisdictions. Partner closely with Finance, Treasury, Investor Relations, Legal, Business Development, Regulatory Affairs, and Sustainability teams domestically and internationally. Manage external tax advisors, auditors, and regulatory counterparts. Regulatory & Industry Engagement Monitor evolving domestic and international tax legislation and regulatory developments. Advocate for the companys interests through industry associations, regulatory consultations, and government engagement. Evaluate impacts of emerging global tax frameworks relevant to the utility sector and energy transition. Qualifications Education Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field with a CPA designation and completion of CICA In-Depth Tax required. Masters in Taxation, or related Postgraduate education preferred. Experience 15+ years of progressive tax experience, including leadership of global or multijurisdictional tax functions. Experience in the utility, energy, infrastructure, or capitalintensive sectors strongly preferred. Deep knowledge of global tax structures, international tax regulatory frameworks, and tax accounting principles. Proven success advising executive leaders on complex tax matters, largescale investments, and crossborder transactions.
