Director of Engagement (Maternity Leave) Reports to: Executive Director Department: Student Services Start & End Date: March 16, 2026 January 29, 2027 Pay Grade: #11 Compensation: $117,900 to $146,200 The salary range represents the minimum and maximum salary for the position. Employees are usually hired between the minimum and mid-point of the salary range. Location: Burnaby campus with some travel required to other campuses including Downtown campus, Aerospace campus etc. About Us The Student Association at BCIT is a leading non-profit student-led organization committed to enhancing student life through advocacy and providing student-centered, responsive and pro-active services. You are a collaborative and visionary leader who is responsible for overseeing the activities and strategic direction of the Student Engagement Group. The Director of Engagement works collaboratively across the organization to engage stakeholders with services that align with the organizations vision, mission, and values, and works closely with all departments to drive and optimize marketing, events, publications and engagement efforts. What You Will Do STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP Provide strategic leadership across the Engagement Group overseeing the Marketing, Publications, and Events departments with responsibility for strategic planning, project management, human resources, and financial management Ensure effective and strategic service to the various departments within the association, including student executives Ensure continuous improvement and strategic adaptation through a data driven and collaborative evaluation process, ensuring effective systems, project and process management Promote collaboration between departments, teams, and external partners to maximize resources, share expertise, and deliver impactful initiatives that benefit students and the organization as a whole RELATIONSHIP BUILDING, NETWORKING AND COMMUNICATION Establish, deepen and nurture strong, collaborative relationships with students, employees, BCIT faculty and staff, and external partners Prioritize student engagement and enhance student life by ensuring department activities align with organizational vision, mission and values, and foster a sense of community on campus Monitor and become an expert in industry trends relating to student engagement, marketing, publications, and events; adjust strategies accordingly Promote the Associations services and programs in collaboration with the various departments, create opportunities for engagement, and improve student awareness of available resources Increase the Student Associations presence and reputation with key external stakeholders such as vendors, employer partners, and sponsors OPERATIONAL DUTIES Together with the Executive Director, manage key messaging for the Association, including public relations and crisis communications Provide strategic oversight of BCITSAs social media platforms and websites, ensuring content relevance, and accuracy Manage the organizations brand identity and perception, ensuring alignment with organizational goals Direct and oversee all organizational publications, supporting the Publications Manager to guide strategy and standards, including the monthly Link Magazine , annual student agenda, and Annual Report In conjunction with Managers, develop, review, and continuously improve all departmental documentation, policies, and procedures to ensure consistency and compliance Ensure that CASL/FIPPA compliances are met, updating policies and processes accordingly HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT Manage, coach and mentor department managers and direct reports in all aspects of People & Culture, and support them in the delivery of services and programs Responsible for the hiring, discipline, and termination of Engagement Operation Managers and Supervisor, and support to those Managers in these processes for their employees Conduct all Manager reviews including probationary, annual, and ad hoc, providing ongoing coaching Manage accident and incident reporting, collaborating with People & Culture Effectively manage and resolve managerial conflicts with a focus on maintaining positive, long-term working relationships FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT Manage the departments finances by developing all department budgets in collaboration with Operation managers, ensuring financial targets are met , adjusting as necessary Manage departmental financial resources and revenue streams in accordance with policies and program requirements, including grants, donations, and sponsorship funds Develop business strategies and opportunities to increase revenue generation OTHER RELATED DUTIES Maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practices and theories in the field through networking and professional development Attend all staff meetings and training sessions as required Attend after-hours meetings and events as required About You You are a collaborative and strategic leader with a strong passion for the post-secondary student experience. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Masters or advanced degree in a relevant discipline preferred 7-10 years of progressive experience developing and managing programs and services related to student engagement, marketing, communications, events management, publications Experience leading and providing strategic direction to diverse and cross functional departments within one portfolio Proven experience developing strong partnerships and working collaboratively across programs Experience with brand management and communication strategies for non-profits, relating to revenue centers as well as non-revenue generating programs and services KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES Current knowledge of marketing, communications, publications, and events best practices Self-motivated with a proven record of accomplishment leading and managing complex projects and teams Superior organizational skills managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment Ability to build collaborative relationships throughout the organization and liaise with internal and external stakeholders Proficiency in CRM systems, Microsoft 365 applications including SharePoint, Dynamics 365, Teams, and Microsoft Suite Strong verbal and written communication skills; excellent presentation skills Genuine passion for student-focused services High level of integrity, judgment, and accountability Strong business acumen, including building, forecasting, and resource allocation Track record of driving measurable results and organizational impact Demonstrated success leading, mentoring, and developing high-performing teams Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; strong presentation skills Strong ability to prioritize effectively and apply innovative problem-solving approaches REQUIREMENTS Local travel occasionally between BCIT campuses Occasionally stands for long periods of time Local travel to networking events and employer locations Our goal is to be inclusive, diverse, and representative of the communities where we work while creating an environment where every person can enjoy a successful career.
