Position Overview Reporting to the Senior Environment Specialist and working a two week on and two week off scheduleat the Ekati mine site, NT, the Environment Specialist assists with the environmental sampling andmonitoring programs at the Ekati Diamond Mine. The position is primarily field work supporting sampling and monitoring programs for compliance, fisheries and aquatics, air quality, reclamation, andwildlife. Additional supporting office and laboratory work, and equipment maintenance will be required.This is an exciting opportunity to obtain valuable work experience assisting with a diversity ofenvironmental programs. Job Duties/Responsibilities Review and follow relevant work instructions and participate in group job hazard analyses for sampling programs. Participate in safety meetings and complete Personal Safety Cards daily. Assist with daily field work for environmental sampling and monitoring programs (e.g,.Surveillance Network Program, Wildlife Effects Monitoring Program, Aquatic Effects Monitoring Program). Work with other Specialists and consultants to complete assigned tasks as required such asstagedischarge measurements at hydrometric stations, pump inspections, water sampling,wildlife monitoring and response, air quality measurements. Provide support with office and laboratory tasks (i.e., bottle preparation and shipping, filing offield data sheets, QA/QC checks, process wildlife camera footage, compliance reporting). Assist with equipment preparation and maintenance (i.e., calibration of monitoring equipment,review of gear checklists, minor repairs to sampling devices). Assist with remote field work; often under inclement weather conditions. Be comfortable working out of a boat and traveling by helicopter. Education/Experience Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) or Engineering (B.Eng.) or technical diploma in relateddiscipline. 1-3 years of directly related technical and/or project execution experience. Knowledge of regulations, monitoring and analytical techniques. Preference will be given to candidates with experience working in the mining industry,experience working in northern Canada, an understanding of the northern regulatoryenvironment.
