Role Summary AlumaPower is developing next generation -aluminum air- power systems, and we are looking for a Hardware Engineer who thrives in a handson, -engineering focused- environment. In this role, you will design and validate hardware that supports our Galvanic Generator platformadvancing schematics, layouts, and bring up work that move directly into -field ready- systems. You will work closely with our firmware, mechanical, QA, and manufacturing teams to turn concepts into reliable, testable hardware that supports our mission of delivering clean, firm, dispatchable power at scale. This role is practical, detail oriented-, and central to our product development pipeline. Key Responsibilities Schematic Capture & Component Selection Build and maintain clear, organized schematics for analog, digital, and power electronics using KiCad. Select components with emphasis on performance, lifecycle, cost, and availability. PCB Layout & Design Execute PCB layouts for mixed signal and power systems using solid SI and EMI/EMC practices. Apply DFM/DFT principles to ensure smooth transition to manufacturing. Hardware Bring Up & Embedded Integration Perform bring up and validate STM32 based boards, ensuring proper peripheral operation. Work closely with firmware engineers to debug MCU hardware interactions using JTAG/SWD and standard lab tools. Prototype Assembly & Testing Assemble and modify prototypes using soldering tools, 3D printers (FDM/SLA), and bench equipment. Conduct functional and stress tests, document findings, and propose improvements. Verification, Failure Analysis & Continuous Improvement Support DFMEA activities and root cause investigations. Contribute to test planning, reliability evaluations, and qualification processes. Documentation & Manufacturing Handoff Produce complete engineering documentation: schematics, BOMs, test procedures, assembly instructions, and reports. Prepare manufacturing packages and coordinate with suppliers for prototype and early-stage builds. Lab Management & Collaboration Maintain an organized, safe lab environment with ready to use equipment. Collaborate effectively across hardware, firmware, mechanical, QA, and manufacturing teams. Support junior engineers and interns as needed. Required Qualifications Education Bachelors degree in Electrical, Electronics, Computer, Mechatronics, Systems Design, Controls Engineering, or related field. Experience 3+ years of handson hardware design, prototyping, or embedded system development (or equivalent project experience). Technical Skills Proficiency with KiCad for schematics and PCB layout. Experience with STM32 microcontrollers and toolchains, familiarity with C/C++. Solid understanding of microcontroller interfaces (UART, SPI, IC, ADCs, PWM, GPIO). Skilled in soldering, manual assembly, and 3D printing (FDM/SLA). Competent in using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, and programmable power supplies. Strong troubleshooting ability and clear technical communication skills. Ability to produce and interpret schematics, BOMs, and manufacturing documentation. Preferred Qualifications Experience in power electronics or energy related hardware. Background in mixed signal layout, high speed design, and EMI/EMC mitigation. Familiarity with RTOS concepts and embedded build systems (Make, CMake). Experience with Python scripting for automation or Node-RED for test interfaces. Previous participation in DFM and manufacturing handoff processes. Experience with additional MCU families (ARM Cortex, PIC, AVR). Experience with Altium, Eagle, or OrCAD. Familiarity with revision control systems (Git, GitHub, BitBucket). Work Conditions Fully onsite role with prototype systems in Sarnia labs and assembly environments. Occasional travel to satellite offices or external test facilities. Fulltime schedule with periodic flexibility during testing or milestone phases. How to Apply Please submit: Your resume A short cover letter highlighting relevant hardware projects and handson hardware experience Include examples of KiCad designs, STM32 bring up work, or prototype builds A personal project portfolio is welcome Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. #J-18808-Ljbffr
