Overview The Opportunity: WSP is currently seeking a highly motivated Intermediate Materials Technician to join our Ground Engineering and Materials Team based in Whitehorse, YT . This position is available in our Whitehorse office and laboratory. As an Intermediate Materials Technician, you will join our highly successful team, using your skills to assist in the management and execution of various high-profile and critical projects throughout the Yukon. What you can expect to do here Youll be working with interdisciplinary project teams on challenging assignments that push your technical skills to the next level. This role offers exposure to both field and laboratory environments, with opportunities to collaborate with experienced engineers and technicians. Lead and perform material testing field assignments, including soil and concrete testing works throughout Whitehorse and across the Yukon. Act as the main point of contact for operations at our Whitehorse laboratory, including our soil and concrete testing regime, and test results reporting. Ensure prompt and accurate testing and reporting of results, while maintaining equipment calibration and general housekeeping for a safe work environment. Participate in quality audits, proficiency tests, and addressing any non-conformances. Oversight of shipping, receiving, logging, handling, storage, and disposal of samples. Order and restock laboratory and field supplies as required. Collaborate with technicians, engineers, and occasionally clients to deliver technical services. Promote strong workplace health and safety practices. What you''ll bring to WSP A diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology. Either possess or be eligible for CTech (Certified Technician) or AScT (Applied Science Technologist) certification, and CCIL concrete (Cat 0) and CCIL aggregates (Type C and D) testing certification. Confidence with remote field work and assignment to projects in the northern environment. Intermediate level of experience as a field technician and as a laboratory technician. Sound knowledge of relevant standardized lab testing procedures with a focus on aggregate & soil testing (ASTM, AASHTO, CSA). Experience with soil compaction testing using a portable nuclear gauge, and with concrete testing in the field setting. Experience with soil index testing, and concrete cylinder testing in the laboratory. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and strong verbal and written communication in English are essential. Added Value: familiarity with geotechnical subsurface drilling, soil characterization, and use of geotechnical instrumentation such as slope inclinometer probes and vibrating wire piezometer data logging.
