About the Role: The YMCA of Northern Alberta is seeking an experienced accounting professional focused on delivering high-impact financial projects and supporting critical finance functions. This position will play a key role in advancing strategic initiatives and ensuring operational excellence within the Finance team and the Association. The individual is required to lead the Associations accounting and reporting practices including the maintenance of its fiscal records, information reporting, data systems maintenance and the preparation of its financial reports. This position will be the lead for assigned special projects and provision of ad hoc reporting. This position will be responsible for ensuring excellent internal and external service is provided by the Finance team and will be engaged in various functions supporting senior leaders such as budgeting, projections, scenario planning and forecasting. This position is a temporary maternity leave replacement and may be extended or shortened with advance notice provided in writing. Responsibilities: Lead Strategic Financial Projects: Implement Zero-Based Budgeting across the organization and drive improvements in procurement processes to optimize costs. Finance Technology Integration: Oversee the development and execution of the finance technology strategy, including integration of Salesforce (CRM), SAP Concur (Expense Management), and NetSuite (ERP). Process Optimization: Champion continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, strengthen internal controls, and improve reporting accuracy through technology and best practices. Financial Analysis & Reporting: Review monthly financial results and variance analyses to ensure accuracy and provide actionable insights. Budgeting & Forecasting: Collaborate with department leaders to prepare quarterly forecasts and the annual budget, ensuring alignment with organizational goals. Compliance & Controls: Maintain robust internal controls and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and Association standards. Audit Support: Partner with the CFO and Finance Manager to support external audits, including multiple charitable entities and funder audits. Contract & Grant Evaluation: Assess contracts and grants for financial viability and strategic alignment. Strategic Advisory: Deliver financial insights to operational teams through projections, business cases, and scenario planning to support informed decision-making. Alignment with Strategy: Ensure Finance team initiatives are aligned with the Associations overall strategic plan. Qualifications: Professional Designation: CPA or equivalent experience in accounting and fiscal management. Minimum 5+ years of progressive experience in financial management, accounting, or related project-based roles. Project Expertise: Demonstrated success in project-based financial initiatives, including budgeting, procurement, and process improvement. Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and familiarity with reporting tools such as Business Objects; strong data analysis and reporting capabilities. Financial Acumen: Experience in financial statement preparation, analysis, forecasting, modeling, and budgeting within a multi-location environment. Analytical & Detail-Oriented: Strong quantitative skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting. Communication & Judgment: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, sound judgment, and adaptability in dynamic environments. Independence & Initiative: Ability to work autonomously while demonstrating proactive problem-solving.
