Program Overview Childcare & Family, Pape Neighbourhood House 69 Pape Ave, Toronto The position is responsible for program activity planning and delivery to meet the needs of children ages 6-12 years old. The Childrens Program Worker works closely with the Manager and Assistant Supervisor to ensure the goals and objectives of the program are met. This involves the planning and development of programs and services for children ages 6 to 12 within WoodGreens catchment area. The philosophy of the work is in keeping with WoodGreen Community Services commitment to community development/empowerment and anti-racism principles. What You Will Do Engage in consultations with participating children and parents to determine the nature of AfterSchool programming. Receive and escort children from local elementary school to Pape House (69 Pape Ave). Plan and deliver AfterSchool program activities which facilitate skills development, leadership, and high selfesteem for children in this age group, in response to participant input and goals. Plan and supervise offsite trips with groups of children and is responsible for the safety of participants during these trips. Develop and deliver community action activities for children in the AfterSchool program. Keep accurate attendance records, and maintain clear communication with parents regarding their child(ren)s attendance. Responsible for supervising children during scheduled extended hours before and after program times. Document the process of program development, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Responsible for organizing and facilitating parent information. Set and work toward personal skill development goals. Participate in team development activities and program evaluation. Participate in regular feedback sessions with other AfterSchool program workers, and supervisory sessions with the Manager. Ensure the organization''s antiracism objectives and community principles are achieved within the program. Work in accordance with all relevant legislation, bylaws and WoodGreen organizational policies. What You Bring to the Team Completed or enrolled in a postsecondary education program. First Aid Certification (First Aid/CPRC). 1 + years of experience planning and implementing activities for schoolaged children. Demonstrated ability to direct, instruct and care for schoolaged children aged 6-12. What Will Set You Apart Ability to handle emergencies. Ability to work cooperatively with others. Ability to use professional judgment daily within established guidelines. Ability to accommodate competing demands. Ability to maintain neat and accurate records. Ability to maintain confidentiality of all information related to children, parents, and staff. Knowledge of child development and learning needs of children aged 6-12. Ability to work with children and parents who have experienced violence or homelessness, and some understanding of this populations unique issues. Understanding of community development and childcentred approaches. Experience working with children with emotional or social challenges is an asset. Excellent communication and problemsolving skills. Interests in music, arts or sports are an asset. Familiarity with WoodGreen programs is an asset. Health assessment including uptodate immunization records and TB test.
