Job Description

Can-Traffic is seeking a skilled Traffic Signal Technician to install, maintain, and repair traffic signal systems, pedestrian crossovers, street lighting, flashing beacons, and other traffic electrical devices. This role requires strong electrical knowledge, hands-on experience, a willingness to learn, and a positive attitude. Frequent short-term out-of-town assignments are part of the job. Join our team and help ''SAFELY GUIDE FAMILIES HOME.'' What you will do Everyday Install, maintain, inspect, and repair traffic signals, school flashers, street lights, and associated systems. Work on underground conduits, signal poles, controller cabinets, wiring, and detection loops. Test and troubleshoot electrical, electronic, and communications issues in traffic signal equipment. Diagnose malfunctions such as timing issues, detection failures, or damaged circuitry. Program signal controllers, set timing and phasing, and implement updates as directed by traffic engineers. Operate and maintain ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) equipment, including detection systems, video/radar detection, dynamic message signs, fiber-optic networks, and other connected infrastructure. Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, inspections, and maintain detailed maintenance logs. Manage inventory of traffic signal equipment and order replacement parts as needed. Read and interpret engineering plans, electrical drawings, schematics, and signal designs. Apply electrical codes and design standards relevant to traffic signal systems. Skills Required Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to adapt, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a fast-paced environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective teamwork and stakeholder interactions. Knowledge of machinery, tools, and equipment used in the installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic cabinets and roadway lighting. Ability to perform physical labor as part of daily job duties. Comfortable working in inclement weather conditions. Flexibility to work days, nights, weekends, or travel out of town as required. Proficient in computer applications relevant to the role. Qualifications Needed Valid Apprentice or Journeyman Electrician Certification. Valid Alberta Class 5Q driver''s license and a 5-year Driver''s Abstract with fewer than 7 demerits. International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA CPS) Signal certifications are an asset.
